AU New to rotaries, but not. Pic heavy.

Hi guys and girls, I've been a member for a little while now, reading and learning what i can to fix my RX8.
So in September 2020 I purchased a 2005 red RX8 manual with a blown motor. I spent the rest of September buying parts for it, eg. engine s2, rhf door seal and odes and ends. fixing little problems.
Start of November i pulled the engine and installed the s2 engine into the car.

It took 3 people 30mins to pull the engine of the bench and get it in the car, using a engine crane.

Slowly I purchased all of the parts i could from a wrecker, what i couldn't get from their I ordered the parts through my local Mazda Dealership.
After 9 months of working on the car swopping all of the car harnesses from engine bay to rear tail lights. I tried to build oil pressure in the engine before staring the engine.
Well I turned the key and the car turned over for a little bit then out of the blue it started.

Alot of cleaning and painting of roar metal was done while the seats were out.

June 2021 i registered the car for the road and have been driving it since. While buying more parts for the project to move forward.

My fuel flap did not come with a earth lead, so i made one.

I do have the lower aero side skirts and mud flaps, also the front lip and accent yet to be painted and installed.

thx for reading the story of my RX8 so far.

This was done with a 60cm x 60cm sheet. Very little waste.

The next project.

Great job man, big project. This is an S2 engine swap? I don't know all the details but from what I understand did you also need ECU and OMP changes and everything?

Yes this has been a S2 engine swap. still S1 gearbox and diff.
I'm running a factory setup, S2 ECU and harnesses + modules that fit the harness,
this also includes instrument cluster and the rest of the security system.
I followed the parts list that a fellow member had posted, but i didn't swap everything on the list.
what i did find was S1 head lights plug in and work on a S2 engine bay harness, but the side
indicators had to be extended. as for the rear tall lights they are also S1.

Love all the attention to detail! Do you have any pics of the full car? I also have the OEM front lip and MS rear wing, but I am trying to decide if I want to put on the OEM side skirts or the R3 skirts since I have a set of both. Would love to see how your combo looks!

Just to be clear, r3 side skirts (real ones) have clips that have corresponding holes in the rocker panels of the car that they snap into that your s1 doesn't have. You could get creative with mounting but it's not a direcr for situation.

Hello again,
Been busy with changing service items like leads, plugs, belts and pully for the A/C.
Also the fuel pump was replaced with a stock replacement part.
The sway bars turned up, and the swap started.

RX8 sway bar kit

front sway bar

rear sway bar

Link kit

surprised they’d be different, have a pair but haven’t gotten to trying to put them on yet.

Is it just at the ends or all the clips down they length of the rocker panel too?
