New owner, what turbo kit?
Hi guys!
Newer RX8 owner and proud to finally have one! Only question im having at the moment is what turbo kit to buy? Im seeing a lot of posts about the Greddy one and the Esmeril one, only problem is they are a little bit out of my budget is there any kits anyone knows of that are a little more affordable? Not looking for quite the same amount of power (since im not paying the same amount as those ones) but one that is still going to gain me some horsepower for the money il be spending! Thanks in advance!

If I was you, I'll go with the greddy. Yes it is very costly but remember you have a rotary, you want the best parts in their anyways, any over heating, running dry or anything.... Kaboom! Just buy everything piece by piece, one week you get the turbo, the next the intercooler etc... Take your time.

I'll disagree Chris only on your price. Unless you have around 5-6k you can't turbo. Even a decent used kit on the forum is going to run you 3500+ Then you have to start thinking about add on's.
The Greddy kits that you can get for 1500-2500 ish 99% of the time are incomplete and your going to spend way more making it work/upgrading etc.
The cheapest "bang for your buck" is going to be Nitrous and no i'm not saying that because im selling a nitrous kit. You can ask anyone who's run it, it's cheap and fun.
Anyway, thats my two cents.

I want to elaborate on something.
Every kit has its flaws. Nothing is a true bolt on project. However, the number of fixes needed is what sets the kits apart. I personally first became aware of the PTP kit because it was in a car and driver I read at the barber. The PTP didn't stay in the market long, and the ones that are still around were heavily modified. The greddy was the most popular, but it also has the largest "fixes" thread.
The most incredible cars on this site are years in the making, and their owners will tell you they are never finished. Brett is a mad scientist down in NZ, pushing the envelope of conventional wisdom. 9k has a beautiful car and is well versed in almost every system of the car, because he's seen it in person on his car, his friends car, or locals cars. Slash is putting down incredible numbers on a top mount, which is the more rare option. I know I left some out, I apologize.
What I'm trying to say is these cars are built by their owners, lovingly taken care of and modified to their owners taste. If you want a turbo rx8 that you can enjoy for years, start reading up and taking notes. You can't just buy the parts and drive away, this isn't a civic.

I've read of other forum members having problems with the esmeril kit. Most of the piping that come with the kit takes a lot of work to fit if they're even usable. Worth checking out the good guy/bad guy forum to see what you're getting into with esmeril. Good luck with whatever you decide to do man but any functional turbo build is likely to empty your pockets.

You mean 50k including the purchase price and 10+ years of ownership. My RX-8 can hang with my basically stock 335i so it's about right where I would expect it to be with my setup, it is what it is. And when I can make a trip to the strip, you will be the first to see the slip since I know you are so curious, But you can crap on the Renesis all you want, it still doesn't make your car fast by any stretch of the word, or more reliable.
And I don't waste my time going out and picking on 4 door Accords but if it makes you feel like a stop light bruiser to pick on Accords then I won't judge you.
But I have faith in you, I am sure with this latest turbo upgrade you will be be able to hang with a newer SS. Maybe, if you are running drags and do a roll race.

Yes, I know how how fast (or slow if you happen to be racing a stock SS, etc., etc.). The post that got you in this thread is a true one whether you like it or not. You can BS all you want, that doesn't change things.
