Test drive first. If you don't absolutely love it, it's not worth it find another car.

I test drove it a few days ago. It was running really well. It was super fun. There are just so many mixed reviews of the car out there. My friend/mechanic seems to think they are good cars and that they are easy to work on. I just have to be 100% sure I can afford to fix it and be committed to doing it.

How many miles are on the car? What engine is it on? Maintenance records/reciepts? ...any more details you can spare?

86k mi. Service records do not say anything about engine replacement. Which the more I think about seems to worry me. maintenance records show that they spent most of the time doing maintenance inspections, completing the recommended maintenance, and checking the battery/charging system. Of course it lists oil changes too. which seem decent, but probably not as often as they should have been.

Well the general consensus around here is that everybody has 1 of 2 emotions about the RX8: Love, or Hate. Which is why I said if you don't love it, find another car cause you're gonna end up hating it.

Thumbs up

Good News? I read this whole new buyers guide about Three times now, and I just got off the phone with Mazda. I had them run the vin number for the car. This '04 is on its 3rd engine. The good news is that the engine only has about 12,000 miles on it. That put one of my major concerns at ease.. For now. I was worried it had made it 86,5xx miles on its first engine, and that after I bought it, it would go. The car has a newer cat converter in it as well as a newer PCM. The car is fully loaded (nav and everything) and costs about 9,000$. Things it will need within the next month are probably brakes. Depending on the amount of driving I do this summer (probably a lot), I think the front tires can make it till October/November. Rear tires are good. I really do like the car, and I am much more comfortable with the idea of owning it now that I have spoken to Mazda about the car. car is a 6spd.

That sounds like good enough news to possibly buy it.

I agree with Matrx8. If you don't absolutely love it, know what comes with this car go for it and if you are uneasy or worried about the possible issues in the future then don't.

I haven't had to buy tires for mine yet, as I've only had it 2 weeks and it has done 8000 miles, but when I put tires on my Mustang GT I always went to Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com). You can save a bunch especially when you are after low profile high performance tires.

It is a blast to drive. You need to get a Radar Detector before you take it home!!

What the hell, really??

I've had my Eight for 4 months and it's barely hit 2700 miles from when I purchased it.

Funny you should mention that. Im kind of a fanatic of cross country rally, From my old car Im pulling out the Scanners, CBs, the Radar, and other toys. Will decide where to put all of that later. I have zero speeding tickets to date! And I cant afford to get one now.

I meant it's done 8000 miles total. I bought it with 7200 on it, which is pretty low for a 2010.

Hello
am from Lebanon, middle east..
owning a RX8 is my dream, but thiers i small problem i want to discus with you..
there are only 6 Rx8s in my whole country and no mechanics know about them, any part i need to buy i should order it from outside the country , any problem i could face with the car no one can fix it ? i know every thing about the car and i have all the repair manuals but i don't think this is enough. so should i buy this car or no ? my mechanic always tell me that you will regret it that you bought this car and you cant even sell it because nobody is intrested in it.

Its not going to be cheap, and in your case i certainly wouldnt recommend it as a car that you use every day.

If something breaks, you will have to source the part out of the country will be expensive to just import the part, not to mention the parts for the rx8 arent exactly cheap.

For the most part, most mechanics can work on our cars, but not anything dealing with the engine, they have no idea. One guy asked me if i needed a forged triangle if i wanted to turbo my car.

It depends on what you want the car to be, as a project car that you will spend heaps of cash into, then yeah go ahead if you want it like that, bring it to car shows and say you have 1 of 6 rx8s in the country.

There's also the climate. I don't know what the climate is like in Lebenon, but if it's anything like Kuwait and/or Iraq, sand and heat could be major problems. Rotary engines run hotter than normal piston engines. Definitely keep on top of your coolant and oil if you do get one.

You could probably run on 100% distilled water and have 100% cooling efficiency, since it doesnt get below freezing. (i think)

forget about getting any aftermarket intake, i would be hesitant to run any less than 20 screens in my airbox if i lived in a sandy climate.

Tape

I have a 2006 rx8 and it says I have a slot for a tape player but I can't find it. There is something covering where it should be in the radio area but I can't get it off and I don't wanna break it, any suggestions?

You do not have a tape player. No RX-8 ever did from the factory. Single disc or multi-disc CD player only, with associated radio controls, and starting in 2006 the added possibility of an AUX input jack.

Leave it alone. Unless you have an actual cassette player. Which you don't. So there is no slot.

Aux cord

Is there a place for an aux cord anywhere in a 2006 Rx8? Because the only thing I have is a cd player I guess.
