New nember!

Hey. I just recently purchased my 2007 rx8. It's the second mazda I've owned. I previously owned a mazda 6. And let me say I fell in love with the 8. I'm having issues that come with the rx8 but hopefully get cleared up this week at the dealer. But this site is super informative. I'll be around. Also I'm from wisconsin if there's any fellow owners around!

Paying a dealer to solve the problems? That gets really expensive, really quick. This car is really easy to work on, and we can usually diagnose things correctly for free on here.

Like plugs, coils, and wires are ~$190-$250 if you do it yourself, $800-$1,600 at the dealer.

Yes typically I would do it myself. But the check engine light came on after I finished my paperwork and before they ported it. So they are legally responsible to fix anything at the moment. Otherwise I'd take care of it. It's very annoying dealing with dealers. I spend 3 months batteling a warranty claim with my other mazda. I'm hoping it's just a quick fix. The problems I'm having are problems on start up. I have to try 4-5 times while laying on the ignition pretty good. It seems to be cranking fine just doesn't want to start. After start up it pulsates and has a slight backfire type feel to it. Seems like there's no power loss and my check engine light did go off. I ran it and it said multiple misfire or something or another.

Good thing it's on the dealer.

Make sure you have the car compression tested before it leaves their custody, if you haven't had a compression test yet. If you have never taken custody of it, they can't stick you with a dime of the problem if it fails. If it passes, it's worth the $120-$180 for the peace of mind that you have a good engine.

Don't be another one of these guys: https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...-miles-251195/ (just the most recent, it happens all the time)

Yeah. I'm dropping the car off tomorrow again. It's my only transportation currently. But the manager signed off and said I wouldn't have to pay anything. Compression test should almost be a must? I'll have to tell them specifically to do that if not. My gas mileage also seems terrible. I know the rx8 doesn't get the best mileage but I've put three tanks of premium in it and I've only owned it two weeks. I only drive on average 10 miles a day. I'm just worried about having motor issues again. Is there any way I can get information on the 8 year warranty? Idk if the old owner had it or how much is left?

Have you read the new owner's thread? Pretty much all of this (and more) is covered clearly there.

Yes, a compression test is a must. Lots of RX-8s are dumped because a prior owner doesn't want to deal with a failing engine.

Your mileage information is far too vague to have any idea if that is good or bad. I went through 32 tanks in 2 weeks a few years back, but that was 8,330 miles (425 gallons, averaged 19mpg). In order to get miles per gallon, we need the miles and we need the gallons. Lots of reasons for mileage problems though, far too many to just point you at a single problem. Best we can do is point you at a list and help you work through them (it's also in the new owner's thread)

The warranty is a factory warranty, 8yrs 100k, whichever comes first, it transfers from owner to owner. You are within the time, though you haven't mentioned your mileage. The dealer will be able to see that you still have the warranty in place.

Yea I've poked around throughout the thread. My car has 63000 miles. And I've driven 500 since I bought it and maybe put 33-40 gallons in since I bought it. My first step is to see what the dealer can do. Then I'll go from there. It's just process of elimination after that haha. But I'll keep reading around and see if I can pick up some more about my cad problems. My cars also a 2007 manual transmission.

Quick update. I told the technician today about all the reoccurring symptoms and my request for a compression test. I drop my car of tonight after work. I should know tomorrow "hopefully" what's wrong with the car. And I'll post the results of the tests on here and compare to the compression test charts! Thanks.

What was the cause of the check engine light? Same thing happened to me, check engine light came on when I first bought it and thankfully the dealership paid the repairs. It ended up being some valve they had replace but had to take the engine out to get to it.

Cannot stand dealerships. They take forever to do the simplest things. I had an appointment yesterday. That was scheduled a week in advance and still haven't looked at it.
