New Member Need Major Help

hi i recently purchased a 05 mazda rx-8 an month ago and the car shutoff on me two days after i bought it, ppl have told me it was the starter so i went and got a new starter...the car started and no less than 10 miles it cuts off on me again when i come to a complete stop at a light. i bought new fuses for the ignition and relay but still it doesnt start! i have jumped this car multiple times and it doesnt get a charge unless i use the jumpbox but after the jumpbox if im not revving the car its dies again! like the cars battery is getting drained!

i got my battery checked its good
starters good
altenators good
fuel pump ive been told is good
idk whats draining the battery like this

some say bad grounding but idk where to start looking!
what could be the cause of my car not starting!

Im sorry to hear that you are having a hard time.

Provide a little more information about your car such as, mileage, auto/manual etc so more experienced members can chime in.

The starter you got, is it the upgraded starter from Mazda?
It could be bad grounds, or Alternator as far as i understand.
Did you get a compression test before or after buying the car, if so post the scores.
any repair history; how old are the coils, plugs and wires?

If its an older version starter it wont really help..
I had this issue, once my starter died, i had it rebuilt from a reputable shop and it did not work. I had to get an upgraded stronger starter from MAzda..

Compression test is really important, that tells u the real health of your engine. If your engine lost compression that will also prevent it from starting.

If your ignition components are shot (plugs, wires, coils) that will also prevent your car from starting, shitty mileage, and cause the cat to clogg faster which in turn may kill ur engine.

Ignition items are a maintenance item they need to be replaced every 30k.

let me see if i can find the diagram of all the grounding points..so meanwhile you can cross that out..

Try these two links. I am not 100% certain if these are actual grounding points,

this link has alot of info scroll down a little
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...results-84924/

This is someone's custom self made grounding kit..to get an idea similar points as the above thread
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...ations-201940/

hope this helps

also try pulling out your spark plugs and see the condition take a pick and send it ..
ensure all your plug wires are snugged tigt if they are loose it may cause starting issues

also make sure all your vaccume hoses on the intake rubber accordion are connected tight

Hope this helps.

I'm not seeing your saying you have start problems just that it's cutting out on you so I don't know why some one would tell you your started is bad. Once the car is running the starter has nothing to do with it staying running. Where did you get your starter and batt tested I've had auto idiots (auto zone) check both on other cars and tell me they where good only to have O'rilys tell my it was bad. Changed them and gusse what auto idiots wrong again batt and alternator was bad. If your batt is draining then look to the grounds first then the batt it could have a bad cell but the car shouldn't stall even if the batt dose die so a little test that has always worked for me. Charge the batt start the car remove the pos turminal from the batt if the car dies you alternator isn't doing it's job.

Other things that are known to cause this problem is bad comprssion, bad ignition sys, clogged CAT, bad fuel pump, and electrical issues. How dose it idle? Any CEL showing? Dirty MAF,ESS, or both can cause this too. Start with the stuff that don't cost money then work your way through the cheaper stuff. More info would help us determine what could and couldn't be wrong.

I agree with nightshade...

The Congrats thread below has many of the free or low cost items. For a grounding kit, I am becoming a believer in just adding star washers under the grounding points as opposed to all the wire. Many of the connection points are just poor conductors.

If you do not know when the ignition was changed, I would assume it ancient. You can get coils at Autozone, they are the real maintenance item in my opinion. Share the mileage, transmission, how much fuel in the tank and where you are as well.

Is you pass side floor warm, or your console hot? These are indicators of a clogged cat. The thing glowing a dull red is an indicator as well. What causes this is the spark plugs do not fire well, the unburned fuel is burned in the CAT, it gets hot and kills itself.

But, for starters, I would do the ESS, MAF, Grounds (just star washers) in the Congrats thread. Then reset the ECU (20 brake stop process) and see what you have. If it still does it, does it refire quickly? If so, unlikely ignition. If the coils get hot and fail, the will take a bit to cool down. However, if the fuel pump overheated and shut down, it will come back pretty quick. If you do not have half a tank, put some fuel in up to about a half. That will make sure the pump is covered in fuel (cooler) and may make it run longer.

let us know how it goes.
