NZ New to club / owner

Hi all

i pick up my RX-8 tomorrow, have loved this car since i saw the concept model
i have done a bit of research into the car / engine,

and the car yard salesman was great also been a rx-8 owner himself he made sure i was aware about the cold start / shutdown and checking the oil and to use 5 - 22w grade oil

unlike other yards i test drove at which didn't inform of any of this just handed the keys and said see you soon...

regardless got the car i wanted
thou do few questions

ie what brand oil is recommended i see mazda recommend non synthetic

and what garages in New Zealand around Mt eden / glenfield / auckland cbd
do you recommend to take it to get serviced / work done if and when required

Welcome! Looks like a clean car, don't like black though, but personal preference. :P

The only reason they suggest not to use synthetic is because synthetic doesn't burn easily, and if it doesn't burn easily it will lead to more carbon build up. You CAN use synthetic oil though if you use something like a SOHN adaptor, but you can look into that more.

What brand doesn't really make a difference, just make sure you get the correct weight.

Welcome and enjoy your stay.

Also, as you might already know, everthing for our car is going to be more expensive in one way or another, may be even more expensive for you out in NZ. For me at least, this car has made me into a DIY person. Save money, and get the satisfaction of working on the car. But you also need good backup, find a dealership with a good rep and try to stick with them. Might be able to get something free once in a while.

Welcome to the club! Looks like you've done your basic research so it's a good start

The question of synthetic vs non-synthetic has been debated a lot in the forum, so you can search and make up your own mind based on the various arguments.

Have fun and zoom-zoom!!

Hey Daso,
Welcome to the club,
The best place to go for servicing etc in Auckland is RX7 Heaven in East Tamaki,
They have plenty of experience with RX8's and rotaries in general,
As for oil, I use Penrite 5W30 Mineral Oil, Always worked flawlessly for me, but everyone has their own opinions as has already been stated,
Cheers,
drum-beats

Welcome Daso ............ the oil question has as many opinions as owners .

You can't go wrong really so long as you don't buy cheap oil .
My personal choice is a quality 5w30 or 5w40 synthetic or 5w30 non syth
