New 06 RX-8 Owner and Question
Hi everyone, I just got my 06 RX-8 a few weeks ago and i've noticed that when i'm accelerating in 1st and 3rd gear, the engine sounds like there is a lot of air passing through in the engine or an air leak or the sound of coolant passing through (can't really tell), but in 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th gear I never hear it and its quiet. Is this a normal sound for a rotary? Or any idea on what it could be? Tried searching, but couldn't find anything this specific. Thanks!

You are probably hearing the coolant rushing around the heater core. The sound comes from behind the glovebox? Rushing water sound, worse when it's cold?
If so, this is common to RX-8s, and is not a 'problem'. If you want, you can pay a ton of money to a dealer to install baffles that will quiet it down.
