I just bought my first car today, an RX-8 Shinka edition and I LOVE this car!! It's automatic and I'm curious about the tiptronic shifting which I just figured out how to use about an hour ago. This is the first time I've driven a car with manual shifting capabilities, the only other car I've ever driven is a Tahoe so I have absolutely no clue about when to shift.

I would be super appreciative if someone would tell me around what rpms I should be shifting into which gears and when to downshift. My dad won't teach me for some reason he's not saying, so I could really use a hand here!

 

Hi and welcome. I'm sure some of the old hands on the site will be along shortly but in the mean time, if you think of the tip tropic as making the auto change when YOU want it too it'll be easier to understand. It's not a "manual' gearbox as such. Read all the beginners stuff and that will get you started. The stickies at the beginning are full of info. The senior guys will give you some links I'm sure but that's a little beyond my technical skills as yet. Enjoy!!

 

assuming you are in the US you go to MazdaUSA > MyMazda > Manuals & References and get yourself an owners manual.

Anyway, shift it when the car is struggling with speed, and its like driving a manual shifter...
