hey guys
my '05 rx8's stock catalytic converter is going and i need to replace it. want to go with an aftermarket was told need exhaust from cutback. not sure what it means or where to start the search. def dont want anything too loud but a nice sound. let me know what you recommend please

 

The exhaust system that you need is a catback, which is everything back from the catalytic converter, i.e. cat, midpipe, mufler, and tip. Read below for more about exhaust. Sound is going to be personal preference, check online for sound clips of different exhaust.

EDIT: Just as a note, what a catback system includes varies from company to company. Racing Beat for example doesn't include the catalytic converter in the catback system, whereas Agency Power and TurboXS include the cat in the catback system.

 

thanks for the insight. the stock exhaust system has a CO2 censor do after market once offer it? i was told no and really dont want to spend $1500 on the stock one. let me know what would u deco i get pls

 

nope, ap exhaust comes with a dual res mid pipe and is very loud (i have it)

tx comes with a straight through race pice.

neither have a cat per say but the midpipe replaces the cat. if op doesnt want it too loud i would at other options

 

Right, I should have clarified. ^^

It includes a midpipe to REPLACE the cat, but it isn't an actual pipe with a catalytic convertor just like you said. Poor wording was poor...

 

A catback exhaust does not include the CAT…

If your catalytic converter is failing all you need is to replace the CAT . Your options include mid pipes without CAT, mid pipes with CAT, or just a CAT that can be attached to the stock mid pipe. There are options out that include a place for the O2 sensor.

There is a lot of good info around mid pipes and CATs in this forum. You can search for this info through GOOGLE. For example, you can type "mid pipe rx8club" and you will get a bunch of stuff.

 

if you have to pass emissions inspection, you should get something with a catalytic converter or just replace the cat itself.

If you want a little more volume, just buy something like the RP SuperCat from Rotary Performance and use it with the stock exhaust.
