Need help with a 2004 Mazda rx8!!!
Hello Everybody! I'm new with the rx8. I am looking into buying one tomorrow but the seller said it starts but it's stalls out once it's warmed up and then you have to wait 15 minutes before it starts back up. The car has 143,000 miles. Never been in an accident. And everything is stock. The seller said he didn't have time to fix the problem. Would anyone know what it can be? Thank you
Honestly that sounds like a compression issue.
Before you purchase ANY RX8 you need to have a ROTARY SPECIFIC compression test done.
You should have 3 numbers and an RPM PER ROTOR
So two sets of numbers.
EX:ROTOR 1 7.5, 7.6, 7.6 RPM 250
ROTOR 2: 7.8,7.8,7.9 RPM 250
Read the thread linked in my SIG. The new and potential owners thread is a MUST
Other than that, welcome.

As long as it's the same engine. For example, a 2005 6-port engine (mated to the 6-speed manual) will fit in a 2004 that has the manual transmission and a 6-port engine. If it's auto, it's a 4-port engine. You can't mix the two. The 6-speed transmission needs a 6 port and an auto needs a 4 port, assuming you are in the US as these were the only engine/trans combos available here.
Don't buy it if it costs more than $2000. You can do way better. 143,000 miles is allot for any car, and especially for a rotary with confirmed hot start issues.
Don't buy it.
Don't buy it.

The 2005 and 2004 are both 6 speed manual transmission. Yea the guy wants $2200 for the 2004 witch it has warm up problems and I was just thinking I have an 2005 rx8 sitting in my lot and the engine is good so I was just gonna swap them out
The chassis still has 143k.
You have a car lot? And another 8 already?
If you are confident enough to swap engines, it may be worth it for spare parts.
There is a niche market for 8 techs, if you learn how to work on them properly, I believe there is money to be made repairing them

I bought a 2004 RX-8 for 3 grand with 50k miles on it. Starts good when cold and hot. The catch is that it's a RHD tho, but after a week I got used to it. Even better, I'm starting to love it
If he would drop the price, you could sell it in parts and such, like bumpers, wheels, brakes, tyres, seatings, airbags, lights, hood, and so on. I wouldn't buy it for the engine tho, unless you would like to revise it yourself. If it's only the apex seals, just replace all seals and get it running again. Sounds like a fun project if you have a garage where you could do it.
