Loss of power under 4000 rpm
I have an RX8 which is suffering from dramatic power loss below 4000 rpm, I had a look at couple of other posts which have given me a few ideas on how to solve the problem. I have had the car for 4 years now and really enjoy driving it its a 06 reg and only now done 29000 so would like to carry on driving it, its had a service every year.
I went to go for drive the other night and noticed loss of power when I pulled away, the acceleration is no where near what its meant to be(more like a 1.0 litre). As I don't do a lot of miles due to having a van for work I thought it may just need a good run so I filled up and went for a drive to give it a good CLEAR! The engine seemed to work better once above 4000 rpm after doing 40 miles on bypass to the first quarter of tank it was obvious it needs more then a good run (normally 60 miles around the city). The next day I called the AA out to do diagnostic check no codes were shown. I would of thought if it was something to do with spark plug leads or coil it would show up? Any how got home and jacked the car up once underneath noticed a lead was loose so clicked it back in, this didn't solve the problem but my thinking is it could be blown plug or lead?
I don't want to take it to the dealer and the charge me for work I can carry out my self. So I will start by changing plugs and leads. I did have the plugs changed last year but will just do them again for the sake of it.
I have seen that people say it could be a vacuum leak on a hose or the o2 sensor others lead to the plugs, leads or coils also the cat but I would assume if it was the cat it would be high revs effected more than low revs? On the posts I have read nobody has left their solution for their problem.
If anybody could throw a little info my way would be very much appreciated. Bit of a long post but wanted to put the exact information down. I will also post once I found out what the actual problem is.
