Just got 2004 RX8

Hello all,

Can someone please tell me where I can get the Navigation disc, a copy or something, an updated one btw. Mine did not come with the disc.

Thanks,

The nav disc is rare, largely because it's also useless. The factory nav system is rather terrible, and there hasn't been an update since 2006 or something anyway, so more and more roads are completely out of date. The value of the factory nav system is largely only the OEM power hood that is sought after for use during a CarPC or Tablet mount for an integrated system, which gets you OBD2 data, up to date nav with Google Maps or your map app of choice, tunes, web access, etc...

If you really want to get an update CD for it, do some google searching, as the question has been asked before, and there are a couple answers available out there. Search with site:rx8club.com nav update disc

Paul at Mazmart might be able to get one, other than look in the F/S section of people selling Nav units.

Thanks all for the reply. I have already been to that website, I was hoping to find someone that may be able to make me a copy and I pay for it. I looked on Ebay and found several different disc. not sure which is the updated one. Supposedly 2004-2008 had the Navteq system in them. I see disc on ebay for the RX-8 that says 2011 update and the disc has Navteq SDAL format stamped on it. This is where I get confused the 2011 update. I wonder if that disc would work in my car since it is SDAL format and a Navteq disc at that.

Ok, I think I figured it out. The Disc have Mazda labeled on them and Navteq, but the disk also has Denso on it which is for the 2009 and up model I believe. So that being said, those won't work for the 2004-2008.

I would agree that buying an aftermarket unit with NAV is a better option if a good NAV unit is what your after. Given that you have to spend $500 on kits before you even choose a head unit to put in your 8, that $200 seems like a bargain. As far as selling your NAV to the other member, well......

It would be worth checking out http://here.com The new name for Navteq maps, as you can get the two disk set (2008/9 being the latest), and that inludes the application disc so I assume that is the latest version of the app/updates the sat nav software as well as the maps?

Unless OEM is important to you, follow one of the diy threads for installing a tablet. That's why I'm after a nav hood. My last post was a joke... unless you want to sell it lol

LOL.. Thanks for all the replies. I thought about modifying just seems like a lot of work and I would assume you would have to have wifi for the tablet to use gps anyway so that wouldn't work as I use gps a lot.

Yeah, GPS on the tablet means some sort of data plan. Like my tablet is 4g through Verizon.

If you have a Android phone, root it and add a hot spot to your phone. Problem solved.

EDIT: FoxFi is free. Read the reviews first.

There are lots of plans available with data sharing. I'd be fine using a 3G capable tablet on a shared data plan.
