I just wanna drive it....

Hello and thanks for the add. I own a 05 rx8 blue in color 6spd. Ive owned the car for several years and have never driven it. I recently replaced motor, tranny ,ecm ,fuel pump, starter, coils ,plugs, and more. Im close to driving this lil bad **s....Now my key isnt recognized so ofcourse a no start. Is there a way to bypass the immobilizer? Ive got a call into mazda but im not feeling very fuzzy about it. Mechanic i spoke with didnt know anything i was talking about but acted like he did. Im in Tucson Arizona and unsure which way to go with car at this point. Any help would be awesome. Thanks again for the add.

Wouldn't be much of an immobilizer if you could bypass it. The key system isn't anything unusual, any Mazda dealer should know how to pair the key for you.

But! Why did you replace the ECM? That's very very very rarely a problem and your original ECM should still recongize the key and all the other modules. Basically if replacing the ECM, you need Mazda to recode it to work with all the other devices in your car. It doesn't just swap out, and there's usually no reason to.

Thank you Loki for responding. When i bought the JDM motor it cam with the ecm motor and tranny. Beings that they were all paired figured that was the route to go. I did put the old ecm back in, but got the same exact thing. Key will turn but not crank.

I don't think the engine cares about what ECM it's paired with. The immobilizer system does. You might call a locksmith and see if they can program your key for you (I've had this done, it's a thing they can do). I don't know if you need a pre-existing paired key (they should be able to tell you), but they have the ability to talk to the ECMs (whichever one is in the car), and make things happy.

I believe the ECU also needs coding to the ABS controller. Long story short ECU's don't easily interchange on these cars.
