Help... internal engine fault

Hi All,

I've just got back from my London Mazda dealer who's told me my 70k 2005 192 RX8 needs a new engine. Given that costs 4x the value of the car it looks like it's curtains. So I'm clutching at straws and wondering if anyone can suggest anything.

The facts:
- Has always ran fine until last week (no problems cold or warm start, never consumer much oil)
- Reasonably well looked after (I always checked the oil was between max and min on dip stick and always took it to the Mazda dealer for servicing)
- On Saturday suddenly lost power on a bypass, engine cut out and I couldn't get it started again
- With a bit of help from RAC I got it going a couple of times but it always fell off the tickover if I didn't have my foot on the peddle. In the end after trying all sorts of system resets etc. it just stopped starting completely
- Towed to Mazda garage who've said that there's no compression in the engine (3.8,3.9.3.1 readings) and that it needs replacing

Any suggestions for fixing would be great!

Alternatively any suggestions for getting it running long enough for me to take to a scrapping yard and save myself a couple of hundred quid would be very welcome.

Thanks

Well the dealer looks to have done a correct compression test.
You really need a RPM number and and Unit of Measure to go with those values but those numbers are low enough it wouldn't matter a anyway.

Get another compression test done if you don't trust the dealer.
IMO that engine is toasted.

Sure sounds like it to me too. Description matches catastrophic loss of compression.

Probably ate a seal or two too which doesn't bode well for a cheap rebuild.

X2 about dead engine. But please if you decide to go that route, don't get the engine rebuilt by the stealership! Find a good shop that will do a great job at a reasonable price and save that 8 from death.
