Has anyone had melted vent hoses on the Accordion Tube?

Hi Guys,

My name is AL from Indonesia and I am super excited to be a new member of the rx8 fam.

My ride is a black S2 2011 AT and I have been its proud owner for almost eight years now.

Recent performance upgrades and tune ups to my 8 are as following:
  • Agency Power Catback + Midpipe (decat)
  • Megan Racing Header (EGR delete)
  • Replaced OEM Fuel Injectors
  • NGK Iridium Spark Plugs, Wires + Coils
  • K&N Air Filter (Panel)
  • Versatune ECU Reflash

Recently Mazda mechanics told me to have these three parts replaced as oil was leaking from one of these hoses (please see picture below).

The hoses mechanics told me to replace

So I did and at the same time I also had my old fuel injectors replaced. Front Bumper was removed to install CF lip and reinstalled afterwards.

After couple of days, I finally got my car back last week. When I tried flooring it today, suddenly something sprayed from the hood to my windshield (fyi I have vented hood). Once I got back home, I decided to check under the hood (suspected my radiator tank's neck to be broken, causing radiator coolant to be sprayed to my windshield). Fortunately my suspicion was unfounded.

HOWEVER, I found my two intake hose vent lines from the Accordion Tube have melted! (Please see picture below)

As I opened the bracket from the top vent line, the whole thing broke!

Has anyone ever experienced the same issue before?
What might have caused it?

My engine temperature from dashboard reading was normal. Not sure about air intake temperature as I was not using my OBD2 scanner.

Please help? Any suspicions on what might be faulty so I can have Mazda mechanics check on it?
Any information on this will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance for your attention and assistance!

AL

are you sure they are melted? it looks like someone put sealant around those hoses to stop a leak or something.

Yep, looks like someone has too much JB Weld/sealant lying around.

They are supposed to have an L shaped joint that connects to the accordion. They do break easily after some age(I learned that the hard way), so someone might have gone cheap and quick with the sealant.

I have a spare one at home, and I will check the part number when I get home.

Yea someone definitely went to town with the JBweld/whatever else and repaired the tube that's probably why it broke so easily

Hi guys,

Many thanks for fast response!

My fellow car buddies also suspected that those was sealant!

So I brought the car back to the Mazda Dealership this morning and confronted them on this issue. It turned out that the mechanics have broken the L shaped joints and applied sealant to fix them without even telling me about it! Those idjets really scared the crap out of me!
Me thinking that the cables had melted really showed my inexperience in DIY maintenance. Apologies.

So they have ordered new joints to replace the broken ones. Hopefully accordion is not broken because of the sealant

Again many thanks for reaffirming my suspicions guys!

Really great to know you all.

- AL
