My car had a evap light about a month ago that I cleared, it has yet to come back on. For the first time a week ago, I noticed fuel leaking from underneath of the car towards the back right (directly under wear the fuel pump was located). A day later I took off the back left seat cover to find that it has previously been drenched in fuel and the seat cushion was practically black on the underside in some areas and stuck to the frame. Half of the fuel pump lid/cover was surface rusted that I cleaned up, along with the seat cushion that stuck to the frame. After opening the cover up I drove the car for a few days trying to replicate the leak to find where it was (maybe not the best idea). After filling up with a full tank I then noticed a slow leak around where the seal sat. After looking for any cracks on the plastic ring nut and the small hose coming out of the pump I saw no leaking from them absolutely and no cracks. I could tell as there was a small sheet of dust where it didn’t leak, and where it has been leaking there was no visible dust/dirt where the fuel pump was located.
Now that I believe I would need a new seal and hope that is all I would need…
I looked online for seals and found that the seal alone is almost half the price ($65) of buying a brand new fuel pump, Which comes with a new seal ($120-$180)
Should I replace the entire pump+seal for an additional $60, am I looking at the wrong places online?
Do I need the specific fuel pump seal?
Links would be appreciated!
Please share your thoughts! Im a new owner and have loved the car the second I drove it.
