Exclamation Engine oil helppppp

I have an rx-8 in Sri Lanka where temps are around 28C -35C and the car is an -08 with 50,000 kms on the clock.. the previous owner had used castor 5w-40 mineral oil and hadn't used the car much n changed the oil every 5000kms. But I personally doubt the use of 5w-40 after reading all the threads in this forum. Im deciding on getting 10W-30 or 20W- the next oil change what are your recommendations. Idemitsu is hard to find over here ( even tho there are many rx7,8s) , castol , mobil , ones are available.. what are your recommendations.

Would be much appreciated as im a newbie into the whole rotary scene.. LOVIN IT THOW...

Btw would love to hear what oil you guys run and how the performance of the engine is...

Surw why not. The number before W is for cold temperatures, which I don't think you get a ton of? It also only matters on startup while the engine is at ambient temperature...10w30 or 10w40 is fine.

I run LiquiMoly for the last 12 years with good used oil results. You're not going to notice any difference in engine performance between oil types or viscosities.

I used to use synthetics, but now I use regular oil.
More frequent oil changes with less expensive dino oil is what I do now, and I use Lucas semi-synthetic 2 stroke oil for premix.

I also read long ago that keeping a regular, frequent oil change schedule before the oil breaks down can help in cooling the engine.

5W-30 is good, but 10W-30 is fine as well if you live in a warm climate.

I used to use conventional/mineral oil for RX-8 when I had it as well, and just stuck to the 5,000 km interval. Any name brands should be fine.

Ohhh this is interesting so in a hot climate like mine 5w-40 and 10w-40 is basically the same..? I was kinda paranoid abt the previous owners use of 5w-40... but then I suppose its nothing much to worry about ... the most cold temperatures we have here are like 18C-13C..
Thanks for the info BigCajun
