Engine apart , some carnage not really what I wanted to see

So I cant be too upset I bought this car with what I was told was a blown motor but I got my hopes up after I was able to get it to run after giving it some love.

Anyway engine out
Blew a corner seal found most of it
Blew an apex can barely find any of that.
Thrashed a rotor housing and possibly the rear iron.
Possibly broke.a small piece off the corner of the rotor when the corner seal came off it looks like ?

So Ive already been told by some with experience likely better of getting a reman than doing anything with these pieces.

But ... Lets say you buy a re man . I would still want to open it up and port it , oil mods , re seal. So thats not cheap either 4k for a motor and another grand or more in port and re seal ?

So If I was able to find decent used rotor, housing and rear iron for a good price at what point does it become worth rebuilding ?

Basicslly rhis topic has been beaten to death Im sure maybe just post your personal experience if you decided to go reman or rebuild and if you felt it was the right choice ?

I've done this a couple times now. Your motor is thrashed. Iron is toast, housings are toast, rotor is toast. Get that completely reassembled, use as a core, and get a reman engine.

Porting is a waste. Save your money.

Only oil mod worth visiting is increasing the oil pressure. Easy task just remove the oil pan to replace the rear regulator and shim the relief in the front cover.

Spend your money on things like making sure all your supporting stuff is in good working order. Good and new ignition system, good cooling system, take care of parts like clutch disc and throw out bearing (get new ones from exedy and koyo respectively), replace old hoses and vacuum lines and coolant lines and hoses.

Appreciate the very constructive reply.
I just figured bolt ons are mostly useless on this engine if there is any power to be found its porting.
Basically your saying just install the reman as is which would save money
So how good is a Mazda reman Ive read you have a high chance of being given brand new housings ?

How many people here are running re man engines ?

No power to really be found in porting especially in a non-turbo application. The only real worth while power mod for this car is removing the catalytic converter and a good ignition system to offset the gradual loss of power that occurs over time from ignition components wearing out (not to be confused with loss of power due to engine wear and steady loss of compression).

Install the reman engine as is, or buy a engine from @RotaryResurrection as his builds have been proven over the years to be solid and him a trustworthy businessman. If anything, a engine from him could be less of a risk than a reman engine because you will know exactly what you are getting as he outlines everything completed in all of his builds. He also might be able to get you better insight as a engine builder as what to expect for your money.

Best of luck,
Ricky

Ricky nailed it. Don't waste your time & money on porting. Just do general reliability mods and get a reman and send it.

Appreciate the replies worth mentioning as well that this is a long term track car < eventually will want to do a turbo , when I first bought it I was leaning engine swap either LFX or ecoboost but more I learn about rotaries the more I want to just get good power out of this motor I would like to have close to 300whp long term
