So a couple of weeks ago I took in my rx8 to my local Mazda dealer after I noticed it was having problems starting on hot starts. They determined it was caused by two faulty coils so I had all four replaced under extended warranty. I drove from the dealer and stopped to get gas and when I went to start the car it was having the same problems as before. The next day I called back and they said they couldn’t find any other issues that could cause that, so we decided to do a compression test. They then said it passed and that they found two faulty sparkplugs so I went ahead and had all four replaced. So again I stopped to get gas after picking up the car from the dealer and the same thing happened it was still struggling to start.
Are these passing numbers??

I got a compression test done last week ('06 50k miles) and spent a few hours this weekend trying to figure out what would be officially considered failing as far as warranty is concerned. I found most of the charts in post 14 as well as the one from the new owners thread (in post 4 of this thread), and was pretty confused
My numbers were:
Rotor 1: 6.9, 6.7, 6.9 @ 274
Rotor 2: 7.0, 6.9, 7.0 @ 271
Altitude is a few meters above sea level.
Rotor 1 normalizes to 6.7, 6.5, 6.7 250 which is below the "B" line on the A-B charts, but above the line on the chart from the new owners thread. I assume this means I pass as far as the warranty is concerned?
My numbers were:
Rotor 1: 6.9, 6.7, 6.9 @ 274
Rotor 2: 7.0, 6.9, 7.0 @ 271

Your starter is barely hanging on with life support however. 190rpm is only a bit above the lowest speed I've ever seen personally. You should be cranking at better than 250rpm. When you crank the engine at 190rpm, the engine can't generate enough compression to start easily. Replace your starter, and go for the 2.0kw rated starter. It will have to cranking at around 270-290rpm. HUGE HUGE HUGE difference.
Also, grab a set of plug wires and replace those too. New coils and plugs will need new wires to go along with it, otherwise the coils aren't sending the power to the plugs very well. All 12 parts should be replaced every ~30,000 miles.
As a bit of a side note, I wonder if you have an apex seal fouled up with carbon on the front rotor. You shouldn't have 1 face that much higher than the other two. It's not the 1.5 difference needed to fail by itself, but it's concerning.

That is exactly what my results looked like when my Mazda tech buddy did mine, that printout is from the same software.
Before I installed the series 2 starter I was cranking 172RPM After I was hitting 290RPM.

What is your altitude? I used the normalization calculator posted earlier in the thread, and the front rotor normalizes to 6.81, 6.81, 7.42 at sea level. Higher altitude will drop that. Yes, those numbers are passing.

Your engine is softening up, but no, it hasn't failed yet according to warranty. UNLESS you can find a dealer that thinks 6.9 is the failing point.
