Hello everyone,

Just installed new Bilstein PSS and hear some clunking noise in the front over potholes and etc. Double checked all the bolts and strut assembly it is all correct. Any ideas how to remedy this? I heard for other cars people adding washers before the top strut nut.

 

If they are new ...it's likely you did something wrong. Have a read of the Racing Beat instructions on how to change the struts ...there are a few gems in there that most people miss!

 

I reread that a few times before and double checked. Although in the Bilstein installation manual I noticed it doesn't say to reuse the bump stop from the front OEMs. I think this may be causing the problem. Should I be reusing the bump stops on to the Bilsteins as against their instructions?

If you are lowering the ride height , you don't have a lot of travel and it's going to be easy for the suspension to bottom out . I would fit the bump stops myself, per RB instructions.

Also, load up the suspension before tightening the bolts. I've found best way to do that is to lower the car onto the brake rotors via a couple of blocks of wood. Leaving your floor jack in the centre with some weight taken up on it to ensure you have some safety while you tighten the bolts.

 

Yep will definitely try with the bump stops next, not sure why Bilstein omitted that from their diagram. I have been using a jack to preload already beforehand, so that should be good. Thanks for the tips.

 

If you lowered the car, you need shorter [adjustable] end links. The factory end links are too long to be used on a lowered car, meaning the sway bar can hit things as the suspension travels.

 

Just an update took apart front coilovers again to ensure they were correct and put them back together with lithium grease on all bushings. Noises went away for most part still a slight rattle over small bumps will check the sway links but so far they are sounding and feeling way better.

 

Just got these PSS in a few weeks ago can't find much on the instilation. They didn't come with anything. I've contacted Bilstein but haven't gotten any response. My cars sitting on jacks with everything off right now. So im out of my car right now figured it would be a little me self explanatory but some things don't fit right. On the frounts, the rubber grommets/dust boot are slightly larger then the springs making them rub metal on mental with the top hat. Any points to the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

 

You should be using all the old rubber for the front you can slide them over by stretching them. You don't need to use front bump stops but use it on the rear you can shorten BP stops in the rear of you want.
