Catalytic converter warranty
Hi everyone, I've got an 09 RX8 and I have read many, many, horror stories about converters clogging leading to engine failure without any MIL on to indicate the converter is going out.
Since the converter seems to have a history of failing without any MIL, I was wondering if anyone had a general feel for what the dealership criteria is for converter warranty replacement? Since they are so expensive, I would like to get it inspected before the emissions warranty expires (I know that is a few years off), but I don't want to waste my time on a diagnostic if they are just going to shrug and say it seems fine.
Thanks,
Andrew

So pull the cat and look down the pipe yourself. If the cat material is still white-ish, not cracked, and all the little squares are still little squares and not melted together you're good to go. If you've read the horror stories, you probably also know a bad ignition system is generally what causes cats to plug up. Keep your ignition in good shape, and your cat should be fine. Or, just throw a midpipe in there and forget about it.
