Catalytic converter warranty
Hi everyone, I've got an 09 RX8 and I have read many, many, horror stories about converters clogging leading to engine failure without any MIL on to indicate the converter is going out.
Since the converter seems to have a history of failing without any MIL, I was wondering if anyone had a general feel for what the dealership criteria is for converter warranty replacement? Since they are so expensive, I would like to get it inspected before the emissions warranty expires (I know that is a few years off), but I don't want to waste my time on a diagnostic if they are just going to shrug and say it seems fine. Thanks, Andrew |
So pull the cat and look down the pipe yourself. If the cat material is still white-ish, not cracked, and all the little squares are still little squares and not melted together you're good to go. If you've read the horror stories, you probably also know a bad ignition system is generally what causes cats to plug up. Keep your ignition in good shape, and your cat should be fine. Or, just throw a midpipe in there and forget about it.
