Can you buy a Mazda extended warranty on used?
I doubt the car I'm buying is certified from Carmax. Does anyone know if I drove to a Mazda dealership and told them I'd want to buy a factory extended warranty can they do that? Or would it have to be a certified pre-owned? If it has to be certified would they do that or not?
Just wondering because from what I've read the only extended warranties worth anything are factory only. I've read bad things about the Carmax extended warranties online.
Not that I think I need one with a 2010 and 23k miles on it. The engine is at least covered. Depending on the original sales receipt date the transmission might even have another year on it.
Thanks!

Yes, you can buy a Mazda Extended Warranty from a dealer even if you didn't buy the car from them. The price is high to begin with, and likely will be higher since they didn't sell you the car...but yes, you can do it.
Transmission is part of powertrain, 5yr 60,000 miles. The one that is expiring soon is the bumper to bumper 3yr 30,000 miles

I figured my bumper to bumper is gone on that car already. 2010, it's been 4 years now (probably).
I doubt the fit and finish on these cars are bad though. My mitsubishi had bad fit and finish but nothing that needed warranty work done.
Carmax wanted $1800 for 150,000 miles of coverage with a $50 deduc. I can't think of anything that is actually likely to fail that could cost that much though.
I had my Mitsu for 7 years and 131k miles and nothing major ever went on it. I consider Mazda to have better quality so I'd expect the same or better from them.

Don't just "figure" it's gone. Most 2009s, '10s, and '11s sat on dealers lots for a long time. Yours might not have been first sold until 2011 or even 2012. I've seen it happen. My 2005 wasn't first sold until Sept 2006. Get the Carfax report and look for the date of first sale. Or call up MNAO and get the exact warranty information. You should let them know that you purchased it anyway, so they can keep your info up to date if there are any recalls that come out.
Yes, I agree the bumper to bumper extended warranty probably won't pay off for you. Really easy car to work on.

That's a good point. I get a free carfax from carmax lol, so I'll verify the sale date and do the math. Then I'll make sure all of the work from recalls has been completed.

I just did the math and the cost of the extended warranties in any amount over 6 years at the interest I am getting def. isn't worth it at all. $1800 is really a lot more if wrapped into a loan with a high APR. So I'm glad I found this forum and went through these questions.
