Yea man that sounds really bad. Is your starter old? It almost sound like it's trying to crank but isn't. If it's actually cranking and sounds like that I'd be worried. I know that sound and it always means that engine is dying. I mean, replace with a new starter and cross fingers but I think that engine is shot. For reference, this is how a healthy engine sounds when cranked. My RX8 I guess will have to do.

Had some similar experience before. That's your flywheel. The flywheel ring gear is loose. Bad news is that you probably need a new flywheel.
Good news is that this isn't engine related
Check my video out, sounds almost identical.

I went back and listened to the two side by side. It definitely sounds similar. It sounds like it cranking but actually isnt. Never thought the flywheel could cause that.

I heard that the ring gear and the flywheel itself have differnet heat expansion rate. Especially when the flywheel is overheat, the ring gear expands more than the flywheel or the other way round, which will enentually cause this.

Yeah I guarentee its an issue with the flywheel. I changed the starter and the same thing happens, its like the starter just never fully engages the wheel causing it to not start, theres also a nast grinding noise when letting off the clutch while shifting now so that also adds to it. Luckily the dealer agreed to take it back and im gonna just trade the beast in.

Exactly. When you rev in N or clutch pressed in such as rev matching, that's the sound you wil likely to hear.
