can coolant clogg cat?

so when i blew my old engine alote of coolant was being thrown down the exhaust. when fired up the new engine the exhaust threw out alote of coolant that was in the exhaust. their was alote of white smoke. do you think my cat is clogged? im having low rpm idle and stalling issues.

when i over heated the engine do you think my coils and plugs could have gotten damaged too?

i would appreciate your input. thanks.

No, the coolant wouldn't have clogged the cat. It may have rusted the hell out of it, but it wouldn't have clogged it the same way as a misfire can.

Coolant in the housing and on the plugs means those plugs are worthless.

Fouling of the plugs probably accelerated coil failure as well, so replacing the coils wouldn't be a waste of money.

quality cats use precious metals, because they don't oxidize so it wouldn't rust either.

but it could fracture and crack if it spit coolant on a hot catalyst, but a broken catalyst most likely wouldn't be the cause of a stalling issue.

a better question is, ask yourself where you got this engine from and did you get any compression numbers off it before installing it? and did you reset the KAM?

i bought the engine from a part out. the guy that sold it to me told me he had done a compression test and everyhting was over 90. i reset the kam already.

the check engine light blinks sometimes but it wont throw a code. when it does its p0301.

the car runs fine through all gears just the stalling and bad idle.

things ive done-

cleaned ess
cleaned and tested ssv
cleaned and tested vdc
20 foot stomp reset
odometer stick reset
checked for vacuum leaks

maybe the spark plug in rotor 1 is faulty or the coil.

Karack, might want to read through his prior threads for some more information about his replacement engine.

Charlie, that is a misfire, and you should work through the misfire thread in my signature to solve it.

Can you check your fueling system status to see if it starts acting up at the same time that it switches from open loop to closed loop?

You clearly used something to pull the P0301 code. Was that at a shop? or do you have an OBD2 method yourself?

When you start the car it will say "Open Loop" then shortly after, the car will start using the O2 sensors and it will go to "Closed Loop". Could Also say "Open Loop, fault" or "closed loop, fault" (like mine with my disconnected rear O2 )

if it does it even on a cold engine i would try testing the ignition with a timing light, seems to be the easiest and most common issue.

Ok, that is what you would expect to see. I was asking about if it starts idling rough at the same time that it flips to open loop. You didn't answer that question yet.

mod edit: inflammatory text removed

so anyways. i had to fix the harness wire on the donor engine because a wire that goes into a plug where the 4 plastic clear tubes come out of was cut. i ended up just splicing the wire and twisting them together. im going to properly fix that with a wire nut to see if it improves.

my elm 327 is acting up i coudlnt get the data from the fuel system that you wanted. tomorrow when i go to my uncle shop ill get it for you.

thanks to all those that came here to help.

yea it does it when its cold too. what im thinking is that maybe i have 2 problems. the idle issue and the misfire.

idle could be that plug with the sliced wire, while the misfire could be a bad spark plug of coil.
