Back behind a rotory

Hello , New rx8 owner signing in. Looking forward to performing a few mild upgrades on a red 2004 manual with 101,000 miles. My first car when I was a bit younger was a 72 rx 2 that I found with a bad 12a . I found an imported 13 b that I street ported and put a rotory truck 4 spd behind it. Was a very fun mini muscle car for me. Then several used rx 7s . Well after selling a v8 5spd mustang recently I got the yearning for that exciting whine of 9000 rpm. Have enjoyed this site since I found it and plan on gathering some much needed info on the rx8 platform. Thanks for having such a great forum. I plan on doing plenty of searches now that I'm onboard.

Welcome!!

Some great info here, if you haven't already found this in your searches. Cheers !

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule.
30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

Thanks Williams for the the info , I did however read through all the newb info and was helpful in steering me to a great rx 8 . It came with all the service history and just had the coils , plugs and wires , coolant overflow and fluids all done . Ran good on test drive with just a bit of limpness between 6 an 8000 rpm but I gambled it was some build up from not being driven hard and regularly . I put a healthy dose of Lucas ucl and put 100 miles on it progressively driving it harder and it's running like a champ now. Noticeably stronger and pulls solid through the curve. Order a mid pipe and thinking about some final gears now. Again thanks for the reply.

Glad to welcome another multi-RX owner from the past into the RX8 fold. Sounds like you have things under control and headed on the right track.

Umm BHR website? Or the used parts section here if second hand is an option.

Thanks , I did check out the website. Real nice stuff. I think for the cost though I'm gonna wait till my cat needs replacing. Car appears to be running very good right now.

That's a fine looking black model. I'm sure someone will ****** it up from ya . Just might take a little time because it is a unique vehicle. Good luck .
