I own a 2005 Mazda RX-8 manual trans. 120,000 mi. religiously maintained. Apex seal blasted at 120,000 on my way to work.

The first thing the tow truck driver said when he got out of his truck was " I tow more of these cars than anything else!"

An acquaintance of mine who is also a mechanic informed me I was one of the lucky ones his seals blew at 30,0000 and also at 60,000.

I still owe $5000 for the Mazda

How do you know it was the apex seals? That's a fairly rare mode of failure to be honest. Most of the time it's slow loss of compression due to degraded ignition.

Also where do you live that there are enough RX-8s for tow trucks to start keeping statistics, lol?

I've seen more 8s on the side of the road around here than any other car the people around here just don't know how to take care of a 8. I had a man who was in a 8 ask me one day why I was adding 2 cycle oil to my fuel. I explained the ups and downs of it his respons was "if I gots to do all that **** I'll drive it till it gose and trade it". The apex seals going is not uncommon but rare if it truly was your apex seals look at other things to have made this happen like the OMP failing. I'm at 140k miles with mine and still strong I've got more trans problems than the engines ever thought of giving me.
