NZ Another new NZ member

Hey guys I just picked up my 04 6-port from CHCH in the weekend, thought I would join the forum and say hi and drop in a photo from the trip back. the pick is from the Kaikoura lookout.

So far I have found the hardest thing about owning the RX8 having to get out of it... I just don't want to! What a fantastic car!!!!

I live in Palmerston North, and am keenly interested in meeting the other 8 owners ..... everyone else just doesn't understand my love for this car I don't think!

Welcome . There are a few NZ enthusiasts for the car like yourself on here - unfortunately they are scattered far and wide around the country .

Good colour choice .................... Red is fastest

Thanks guys, yes red is always faster! I wasn't actually very keen on red until I saw one in person ...wow that's a lot of flake/pearls they put in there!

I picked it up with 77,000KMs on the clock and 100% factory standard. Right now it is in at the dealer getting the front eccentric shaft seal replaced (just don't have time to do if myself unfortunately), I also have a RX7 s8 starter motor + adaptor to put on it as the current is only spinning at 150RPM. Other than that I have a large list of wants (wheels, suspension, exhaust etc.) however my current circumstances (baby on the way and our new house being built) mean that I will only be able to really maintain her as she is for now.

The one exception to this is that I WILL be buying one of the BHR ignition kits sooner rather than later... Only one of the coils has been replaced from new (all version "A" besides one "C") and the things I've read about the kit plus the reassurance that I wont have to replace them every other year sounds like a wise decision to me!

Thanks again for the welcoming guys!

Better idea is to get the upgraded starter that spins around 280rpm .
Knock off units are often sold on TM for under $400

My wife was just in NZ last week and saw a red 8 driving around when she was heading out to a winery.

I did see them on TM but was under the impression that the rx7 starter spins at about 250-280RPM anyway? the starter plus adaptor cost sub $200 so not a huge loss if it doesn't work out. I guess I will se how I get on and maybe get the uprated one. Thanks for the input it is much appriciated!

That is funny, there are lots of RX8 in NZ so it could have been anyone. However if it was on Sunday between Kaikoura and Picton and the driver was a young guy driving like a hooligan with a smile from ear to ear it may have just been me :D

Dunno how fast the rx7 one spins ............ I would be very suprised if it's as fast as an upgraded rx8 one though . Those things sound like a freakin' turbine winding up ! What really matters is that it starts the car easily and the rx7 one may well do that.

Damn I just received an email from Charles at BHR saying that the kit will bring up a series of cel codes on our jdm/nzdm rx8's... what a pain I was really looking forward to not having to worry about the ignition system.. guess its back to buying the overpriced crappy OEM coils...

Firstly ........... you don't have to buy from Mazda . Import them from the States ... Check out Mazmarts deal .
Secondly , I can delete the cels from the BHRs + adjust for to the best dwell for these coils so they realise their potential .
Just takes a trip North and a minimal fee
