AL alternator/water pump belt broke while driving

i have read a good bit on this but i want to explain my senerio. i was driving my normal route doing 55 on the highway, when i noticed my battery light came on. first thing came to mind was wtf considering i have a new battery. then i checked my guages and oil guage was fine but then my temp light was maxed out. i put the car in neutral and cut the engine off. i coasted into an Entec parking lot and popped the hood. coolant was everywhere. the radiator cap was still on i seen no busted lines or anything iut of the norm. i took the cover off the engine and noticed my alternator/waterpump belt was shredded. im going to let the car sit since im at work now and i ordered another belt for it. i also have some coolant to put in it when it cools down. i just want to make sure i dont do anything out of the way before hand. any help/advice would be great. thanks guys and gals!

Probably want to get a compression test and the cooling system pressure tested.

You may have just lost the belt.....

check that the water pump pulley turns normally and that everything lines up....if the waterpump bearing seized it can eat the belt

And if you are lucky the overheating didn't cause any permanent damage
