Alarm nightmare

I have an 04 rx 8 and I took the battery out due to it leaking around the post and got another one to put in to the car but when I hooked the new one up the alarm went off and I couldn't get it to turn off I tried putting the key in the driver's door and nothing and the car wont crank either any suggestions

Have you tried unlocking the car with the remote? That usually fixes it for me.
Sounds like it thinks it's being stolen, hence no crank.

Did you by chance hook the battery up backwards?

Try this.. with the alarm going, open the door and use the power locks button to unlock the car. Then come to the front and disconnect the battery. Then close all the doors but don't lock them. Then connect the battery again.

No promises, but it might work.

Well, we don't know if you are a dude or girl until you say so, but anyway...

You should be able to disable the alarm by simply unlocking the door with your remote, or open the trunk with it.

If that fails, try putting the key into the driver side lock and turn it and see if it will turn off.

You can order a switchblade keyfob that will work.
It's a common problem on '04s.
I had to get one.
I'll look for the thread with the info.

Here it is, you need the Visteon model number and the FCC #.
I got mine from the Remote Superstore online.

This thread helped me track down another pesky electrical issue, it may be helpful, if not, it may come in handy for something else.
