5 Speed manual?

Hi,
I've found a 2005 RX-8 fairly close by, with reasonable km (70,000). The owner is willing to do a compression test. However, it is a 5 speed manual - does this mean its the 'detuned' engine, like was used with the automatics? Are the high power engines only used with 6 speed manuals?

If its 5 speed with full power, that doesn't sound like much of a loss. But if it's 5 speed with considerably less power...

4 port most likely. Count the intake runners or check the redline.

You are correct ....... it's a 4 port engine with less power than the 6 port manual .

Quite common here in NZ .
