Lightbulb 05 RX8GT Cold/Hot Start 145k

Well, here before to long I am pulling my engine, and going to to start my swap, and will be doing a write up on it. And the engine/trans will be sold once removed. But In the meantime, I thought i would post this just to get people's overall impression of the engine with its mileage and how it starts. I have not done a compression in probably 2 years. This engine is original to the car. As shown in the video, the car does have a check engine light on. 1 because my Cat is not present, and a recent evap leak. . And since I had started taking it apart before I filmed this, I'm sure there is a Air Pump code by now. No Misfires.

The engine seems to run just fine. I wouldn't be concerned unless you have starting issues. Its impressive to see it starting so well and running so well given the mileage. Someone has taken good care of the car.

Start is a little slow, but sounds like you have an early model starter, which is a bit slower, so that would make sense.
145k, nice What are your driving habits like?

You know, Im not sure if that was ever updated or not. I'm taking it apart as we speak. I have the TSB saved on this computer somewhere, so it wont be an issue to check.
Well my wife would tell you that I drive like an *******....... But i call it spirited driving If I'm on the highway I'm doing 80, If i see a familiar curve I'm going to send it. On a serious note, I do do the occasional AutoX, but more track days than I do that.Track days will ruin you from doing anything else. Normal day to day driving it does see redline once or twice every time i drive it.

It honestly doesn't even sound that bad. The hot start is a little slow, but it doesn't sound like the car is having any trouble, really.

IMO there is a difference between driving like an a-hole and spirited driving.

If you just like flooring it, but you check your mirrors before you change lanes, etc., you are still a far better driver than someone who drives slow as *** but can't stay between the lines even if their life depends on it.

True, there is a time and place for everything. And yeah, I am familiar with bad drivers. I live in a suburb of Memphis, some of the worst drivers in the country.

If you saw a LY on I-55 2 weeks ago, it was probably me.

Well, lets talk about what this Engine/Trans is worth and what I could expect to get from them together. I know what the JDM Importers sell theirs for and cant even prove they run most times. I know roughly what to expect if mine was relatively low mileage and ran good. But i don't see very many high mileage ones that are still running so, I'm not exactly sure where to start. My best guess is that it could be a tough sell, unless someone was looking for something they knew ran and would provide them with a build-able engine that they could get relatively cheap. And the powertrain is about to be very much in my way.

Rebuilders may be interested in good condition engine parts. RotaryRessurection isn't far from you and a member here.

So, are you considering bastardizing the car with a V8? You talk about pulling the engine and trans and doing away with it. If we were closer I would be interested in the engine and trans.

I have absolutely no intentions to put an LS in anything I own. However, I can't knock how good the engines are, but I have no desire for my car to sound like a Massey Ferguson Tractor @ 6,000 rpm trying to plow a field before a storm. This car is going to get a 1J.
