05 rx8 engine swap suggestions
05 rx8 engine swap suggestions
I own a 05 mazda rx8 and I was wondering what would be the best choice, if I decided to get an engine swap.
I want something reliable but, also something I can modify. I also want it not to be a pain in the *** to modify.

An engine swap is an engine swap is an engine swap.....they are all a pain in the *** for this car. I suggest reading alot like the user above me posted. Study alot, then be sure you want to do this. Preparation and reading I believe is 60% of it. 20% work. 10% beers. 10% of deciding whether to quit. Lol
+1^
I don't think you'll find what you're looking for.
Imo, swapping a non-rotary engine into an RX8 is a huge money & time suck, and you lose the soul of an 8.
If you're not happy with it's performance, sell the 8 and get a Miata, they're more adaptable to performance mods.

This car is not engine swap-friendly. It was literally designed – shrunk-wrapped, if you will – around the Renesis, a little engine a mere 13" tall. It's that engine's smallness and lightness that affords the RX-8 its sublime feel and handling - mentioned by many auto journalists as one of the best handling cars in the world at any price.
You can well end up with a car more powerful – but not more powerful than hundreds of other cars – that handles unremarkably and changes direction like a once slick fielding shortstop who's aged a few years and lost a step. In other words, you'll probably lose the 8's single best quality. So, uh… good luck, dude.

Isuzu v6, its a weekend of work, max. I think the first question is your budget. Do you have 10-12k to start? How much of the work are you equipped to do yourself? Welding? Electronics?
Yeah, Joe Isuzu has almost 4 years in, & I don't think he even has the engine in yet.............................
NC Miata subframe + 2.3 DISI/EcoBoost + NC Miata gearbox.
Use the Miata PS pump and steering rack, clearance the firewall for the HPFP, find a standalone ECU for tuning.
Should be 6-8 hours, total (okay, not really).

Rear weight is necessary
Nowadays putting weight down on the rear of the car it's necessary. The Mazda rxs are all under $3,800 lb that is too light. To put a three rotor or four rotor you have to drop the car so if you have an RX8 you have to drop the car. For an RX7 there's your seven. But you're playing with fire nowadays these trucks that are on the road from Factory are over 7500 to 10,000 pounds not loaded. If the truck hits you at 20 mph it's totaled especially and RX7 it will practically run the car over. I'm not for anything else but it's just the way the car business is. I don't know the right specs but I believe the Mustang 5.0 at 20K dollars you have at least 5,000 lb on the car and can get the wheels on the ground at a minimum of 275/40 r19 and you're a whole lot safer an upgrade also. I see a dead Market for the RX and the nine it's not out and it should have been out by now. I thought by at least it will be an early 24 vehicle. I don't see it happening. And the rx-9 is not out because the Supra and the 400z or Z are not selling. Again I will say on this forum for everyone the new RX it's not out because the Nissan Z and the Supra are not selling. You can take that to the bank. The RX option is no more. There is no sense in marketing the Rotary and if you're paying top dollar to get the car back on the road it's not worth it.
