Thumbs up 04 RX-8 A/C fiasco

My 8 has a long lived problem with the A/C. First, it was the clutch not engaging... Filled the lines up with A/C Pro, now the A/C clutch engages and the fans come on. Cool. I should have cold air now right? F---ing wrong.... Still blows hot air... Note: I keep hearing this actuating sound from the middle of my car.... so I take a peak back behind the radio where the climate control unit (Name Check?) is, and to my surprise i see this little metal actuating arm barely moving back and forth, then stopping for a second, then moving barely moving again.. so i turn my temp **** from cold to hot then back to cold.. it goes almost all the way up, then goes back down and does its little movements. So I disconnect the arm, push the plastic piece all the way up, and shove a little screw in the hole to keep it from coming down, bam.. cold... friggin.. air.. meanwhile, the metal arm is still doing its seizure like movements. all in all, my question is.. what do i need to replace? the whole damn unit? or is it a simple unplug, plug kinda thing?

There is a known issue with cold solder joints in the control unit for the A/C. Do a search for the thread. It will tell you how to put the dash into test mode so you can see if the control **** is working. The thread will also show you how to re-solder it if it fits in your skill set
