I agree with Astral. 215/55/17's are a popular choice on the 8 (even the they're a bit bigger overall. They'll throw the speedo off by about 1MPH at 70,) and 205/55/17's should be ok, but might be narrower than desired for dry roads.
Running narrower than 225 on stock rims, if possible, would lead to tons of road rash.

Okay, it's killing me to still have my winter tires on! How much longer before it is safe to put our summers back on?!

It should be safe to throw the summer wheels and tires back on.

Its killing me to. I still have to wait one more week before I can mount my summers back on.

I put mine back on last weekend. We had a little snow Friday during lunch, it was definitely slippery, but if need be, I can work from home.

bump. it's getting to be about that time. i'm still holding off but getting up in the morning at 5:30am, it's been about 27 degrees each day and i'm a little weary of driving my hockey pucks at that time. of course it has been warming up a little more during the day so i'll give it a couple more weeks and see how it is then.

I usually switch mine around Thanksgiving, but I had a flat (3 screws! Where the hell did they come from?) , so I put the winters' on Oct. 11th.

I'm holding out like Art said. I'm not up that early (thankfully!) but it has been between 35-40 each morning and my summers are like bricks. It's fun sliding a bit on the side roads and after a mile or so they've warmed up enough that they grip fine again.

I'm right on the water so I think I can get another week or two of fun morning slides and warmer afternoons so they're safe enough. But it is definitely closing in on "that time" . . . .

^ sounds like my luck last year. Had a giant screw from road construction areas stuck at the point where the thread meets the sidewall. BOOO on winter tires in early October! Sucks, right?

Once it dips below 30 degrees in the morning and at night for a solid week that is when I'll change 'em ova. I just need to figure out a way to strip off my rear wheel locks since either the dealer or the tire place lost my wheel lock and no one is willing to owe up UGH

man I sooo dont wanna slap on the 16's again grrr..

When is the latest to put on winter tires?

Should I go with 225/50/18s on a car lowered 1.3 inches?

Quick question ... what size rims can you folks take? (Sorry I'm a 6s-5dr owner lurking in this forums for meets and stuff) ie. stock size and offset

I have a set of used ASA EM975 rims 17x7 +40 offset with Blizzak WS-50 tires on them, from the time I had a Maxima. Since I can't use these on my 6s (I bought a new set for winter), if it fits for the rx8, I'd like to put it on the buy/sell section.

Art, if you go to the OCC meet, hit me with a PM. I wanna see your new (well, guess it's not new anymore) kit!

The only Winter tire in the 225/50/18 I know is the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25. It's a fine tire but I think it's also the only choice in that size.

However, please note that on a lowered car I would not recommend you run this taller tire (0.9" taller than stock). I am almost certain that you will hit/bend your front fenders when you cycle through your suspension while turning.

If you work with the stock dimensions or 224/45/18 you be safe and will have a broader assortment of tires to choose from. If you want to run a slightly taller sidewall, set down to a 17" and get 215/55/17. Skinny good for lots of snow but bad for turning on dry though....

As for when I plan on putting my winter tires on? Well I plan on throwing out the tires I have on now so I will put my new snowtires onto my stock rims just soon after I pull the longest running burnout of my life.... I'll post my vid...
