Anyone know of any twisty roads in and around Queens and Nassau? Sometimes I just want to head out for a quick and dirty drive at night. What are you favorite roads?

I do a very short strip of road on the GCP south service road, between Little Neck and Lakeville. Low traffic, covert, not much residential, 6 great corners and some elevational changes and blind turn in sections. Best served at night. It's short but when I need my fix, it's a mild solution.

Any other secrets?

 

I find the Northern State Parkway has some nice curves, not crazy but nice if your going fast. The Jackie Robinson Parkway(formerly the Interborough) is great in the 8. Some great curves and it's nice at night, not too many cars to slow you down. I do a run on the Jackie a few times a week. Just watch out if you're not familiar with the road because the curves could catch you by surprise.

 

the bqe.. coming north up from the verezzano is nice.. I also found the Belt Pkwy East out of JFK a fun drive.

 

wtf, never speed on the bqe unless u wanna die! lol, plus north after the verrazano are cops all the time with potholes, unfinished pavement, and lines for entrances to the bridges.

although i can say that 3 speeding 8's and 3 in the morning with no traffic on the bqe under the promenade area with the crazy view of the skyline is intense!!! not that ive ever done that before or anything lol.

 

ay, I should have mentioned the unpaved crap.. the skyline strech is what I was going for..

 

Yeah umm....Belt parkway and northern state both have only very gentle curves. They won't be exciting unless you're doing like 120+ mph. Which is.....phenomenally stupid.

For real twisties, there isn't too much in the area. I have a few 3-4 mile routes through Old Westbury that are quite nice, including some small elevation changes. Within the corner complexes you generally stay in 3rd gear, sometimes down to 2nd.

Most importantly, there are relatively few driveways, almost no side-roads (and I know where they all are) and there are no streetlights (so you can see other cars coming from quite a long ways away because of the headlights.) Still the possibility of wildlife, though. They are not very long stretches, but only a few minutes from my house, and are good for a very-late-night, take-the-long-way-home kick. Take Northern Blvd to the road/streetlight smack between CW Post and NYIT, and explore a bit.

***Side note*** Old Westbury is literally one of the wealthiest towns in the nation. They have their own private police department which is disproportionately large considering the population. If you make a very fast run through there, do it quick and then get out of there, and keep an eye out for white cruisers with yellow and brown stripes.

 

Oh, and the highways up in Westchester are sooooo tempting, cause some of them curve really nicely, but dont even think about it cause there are so many police around there. In fact, I'll make the blanket statement that it's pretty stupid to attempt significant speeding on any highway....and not nearly as enjoyable as with pushing it on slower but tighter B-roads.
