Ticketed for Tint!
After almost two years of driving around NJ, PA, & DE with tinted windows, I finally get pulled over...in my own hometown! (You listening, dag?)
I cant believe the cop gave me a ticket and not just a warning for the tints after he saw I live in town (about 7000 population).
Ive been driving around town since June, 2004, have parked in front of the police station dozens of times, have waved to officers & they waved back many times, and I live on the corner of a major intersetion with an elementary school, and I know the cops have seen my car (it's not like there are 30 or 40 winning blue 8s in my town) hundreds of times. Why today & why this cop? He's some young guy I dont know. I fired off a letter to the Chief, whom I do know. Im wrong, I'll pay, but I think the cop couldve let me go with a warning; me being a local & all.
Right?

I drove around for about 2 months with no front plate but got nervous. It's funny but I thought then,"If I get pulled over for no plate, it will happen here in Pitman!"

What's your %? I saw your car a couple of weeks ago and didn't think it was that bad. Did he use the meter and get a different reading than you expected?
Sorry to hear about your trouble - I hope the fine doesn't take too big a bite.

CBD: I just dug out my receipt because I couldnt remember the %.
It's 35% driver & passenger side windows & 20% back 3 windows. The back 3 are darker, of course. The cop didnt measure anything. SHould he have? I think any tint is forbidden in NJ.
I dont know, Cool-Blue, did I look like a trouble-maker to you?

chris is right, no tint what so ever on the front passenger windows and windshield, everything else can go as much as wanted. then of course there's pennsylvania right over the bridge. penn's do not need a front plate and can tint everything legally.

chris is right, i researched before i got mine tinted. anything in the back, nothing in the front.
I've had 20 in the rear and 35 on the front for a while now, and all i got was a college "cop" threaten me and he pulled me over cause he said I was "flying" (i was doing 33 in a 25). I even got pulled over by a real cop and he didn't say anything about the windows.
Your problem is that the cop that pulled you over was a young guy who was strictly following all the rules. After a while they don't really care about that kinda stuff, unless you're already doing something else bad.
Duke, do you drive on 295 in the cherry hill/mt. laurel area? Cause I've seen a blue with tints a few times driving home.

For NJ, the law says no tints on the windshield or front side windows, and anything on the rears.
For Pennsyltuckey, it's no tints on the windshield, 70 on all sides, and "VESC 8" in the back (whatever the hell that means?)
See http://www.latint.com/regulations.htm

I'd go to the place you got the tint installed at and ask the guy to write you a receipt or one of the technicians, tell him you'll take care of him, throw him a 20.00 and bring the receipt, without the car, to court and fight it. Tell the D.A. the tint was on the car when you bought it, and after getting this ticket, and having no idea that you were breaking the law, you then had the tint removed. I did it and got away with the ticket 4 times, and the officer used a tool to measure the tint.
But on the other hand, I'm not sure what type of court you'll be going to, along with the fact that your town population is 7,000, the same officer may see you again.

Next time, look to see if there's a Pitman cop following the blue.
Then, yes...it's me!
