I was coming back from Williamsburg this afternoon and, by the time I hit the Richmond area, there was an inch or so of snow on the road.

I had read the RX-8 was not good in snow but I guess I didn't truly understand. The stock tires/wheels are terrible, I could not keep the car stable no matter how carefully I drove. I had to get off 64 at Laburnum (couldn't keep up speed) and eventually gave up all together as 15 mph down laburnum was still unsteady. I might have made it home if there were absolutely no other cars on the road, but that was not the case.

No damage but I ended up parking my RX-8 at a friend's house in North side and got a lift back to Midlothian.

When they say the stock Bridgestones are "Summer Tires" they mean it!
Wish I had a garage to keep it in, but it won't be ready until April! Husband wanted to go out and try it in the snow, and I told him there was no way in hell. Now I can show him this. Sorry you got stuck in this nastiness...

You guys should definitely try to drive them in snow just to know the limit, I am not saying going on public road with it though.

I was driving yesterday and even with AWD I had no traction, then again, I have ultra high performance summer tyres, with not much tread left.

My car is all warm and happy. Time to drive the 4x4 for a while. Sorry Rever no miles for the 8 for a while.
I do not want to turn my pumpkin into a squash.

PS still looking for a good vanity plate idea.
The Rav4 has one of Ravioli.

Yeah boy...guess who is not going to work today.

I keep my car in a garage and it looks like VDOT dosn't have downtown richmond as a priority. So, I will not be taking my 8 out there today.

Hanzo, nah, I don't think we should take our cars out there...there are enough post about how badly the 8's tires are in the snow.

So looks like I will be doing lots of posting today.

Hahaha, sorry man we can't change location all the time we already do that too much. The Friday thing has been going on for a long time now, so if you can make it great, if not we do it every Friday so just come by when you are off.

We usually don't leave the mall until 9:30ish, then we go eat and drink.

BTW we usually get coffee and go up to the food court since they have lots of seats, besides its cold outside.

As Hanzo said the friday meet is such a large event with so many moveing parts its hard to change on the fly.

We will change it once we get kicked out of this venue. Wich may happen sooner than we think... During the spring and summer this event gets kinda big. So we don't want to burn through all of our options just for the heck of it.

We have people that come from MD, and DC on occasion.

On weekends that are nice weather wise, its not hard to get a group together and hit the back road twisties.

At this weeks meet we can meet up and talk some more about that.

Thats great. I am usualy the first to the meet. (when I come) We park behind the the Dicks sporting goods parking lot, mabey the Richmond Funnybone would be more accurate. But in the far lot against the fixed medion (sp). But, you will see a Black RX8 with 9-K Rever on the plate starting off the row. There are no ricers or tasteless cars there, and no one in their teens. Except one of our members little brother but we ignore him most of the time....
We are always up for good new twisties. So if you have some to contribute please do!
And for the record I am the youngest Richmond RX8 member at 25.

You don't need to be in such a hurry, usually people show up around 7:45ish.

My ^&%%^#^ job MADE me go in today. And when I finally get there (not in the 8, husband drove) they tell us to go home, because the weather is too bad to be out in. Bunch of jerks.

No didnt have any money left over that body kit had to be shipped specially from japan and it cost me a few thousand when inluded with the exhaust so you can say i spent about 4thousand dollars for a body kit and exhaust. I hope the road clears up if it doesnt i might have to drive my sc430 since that has traction control or borrow my wifes lx470.

See you guys have Toyota in the blood.

You said you got an exhaust? What kind?

UR 8 should have traction contol..DSC. Or did you get one w/o it?

Its just the tires are not summer tires. And won't give us the traction we need.

I had a Subaru Legacy up untill October..had to get rid of it..I actuly miss it now. All that time it was sitting parked when I got my 8....

I am actuly worried if I can get to work on Wednesday..they haven't cleaned the roads down here on Tobaco Row yet..

I can see the street that the garage my 8 is in is still packed with snow.

Jeeeez...

I bought the sc430 for its looks my wife made me buy her the lx470 but were thinking of trading it in for maybe an x5 or a range rover. My 8 has the traction and vehicle skid control but why drive that in the snow and let some idiot hit my baby especially when i get the body kit put on. Not trying to risk somone hurting my baby uh uh.

I would suggest not getting a Range Rover, they are not reliable. A friend of mine had one and spend most of its time in the shop.

You should look into the Infiniti FX35 or FX45.
