Well long answer short, its a piggy back rather than a reflash device. The thing is that emanage "hacks" into your factory ECU. I am unsure of the specifics, but usually piggybacks just influence the data that is being fed into the ECU to cause it to behave a certain way - you have a lot less control.

For example, you would be able to influence either the amount of fuel or the ignition timing, but not both at the same time.

On the other hand, COBB changes the stock parameters and maps directly so that you have a lot more straight-forward control.

You also do not need to modify anything for COBB, just plug it into your obd2 port. AND you can just uninstall COBB through the obd2 in 10 mins, These are pluses for most people

So you dont have to hook up the E-manage at all? Just run the cobb map from who ever tunes it? I just wanna run the car at a safe boot and just have that little extra power. I use the car everyday so im not looking to over boost and kill it or anyting, just something nice and simple.

NOO ... Emanage goes into your ECU box wired directly into your ECU...

COBB just plugs into ur obd2 port, installs the desired maps and you can unplug it

I believe MM said that there is more than 20% variability in the needed map settings from Rx-8 to Rx-8 ...

Although running someone elses map is better than not tunning at ALL, you really need to get a tune for your car because every car is different. If there were set maps for every possible configuration, then there would not be a need for tunners. It is the fact that every car is different that creates this need.

For example, say we both have the greddy kit, same midpipe and cat-back.... the maps at which both of our cars will perform optimally will still differ quite a bit.

In addition If you are talking about getting someone else's map .... I highly doubt he/she is running your identical set-up too.
