Exclamation An open invite from YAMS

HI, I'm Thomas Kirchner, President of York Area Mazda Society. We're an all inclusive Mazda club based in York, Pa. (take a look at our site,www.yamscarclub.com)

We are going to Carlisle this year as a club and we're taking everyone with us! We are going to contact neighboring clubs about going with us, we need a big turnout for this!Every year, the SAAB guys take a trophy for having the largest turnout, lets show em up! Were planning on having a tent up and showing video of club activites and just generally schmoozing about with other mazda folks. PLEASE NOTE when you sign up, please sign up under YAMS, as it will enable us to get a club tent without rental fee if enough people show.

Original Ferraris to replica Cobras ride into Carlisle, May 20-22

CARLISLE, Pa. – The 2005 Carlisle Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals, presented by Beck/Arnley, roars into town May 20-22. Visit carsatcarlisle.com/import or call (717) 243-7855 for more information.

Original Ferraris are featured in the import Invitational Display with cars from the Ferrari Club of America. Kit cars are always in abundance at the event as well. In fact, this is the largest kit car gathering in North America, with all the big kit manufacturers displaying their newest products.

The import show field will be filled with vintage and late-model British, European and Asian vehicles. The Car Corral includes all sorts of imported and kit vehicles for sale, and the swap meet offers new kit, specialty and replicar manufacturers and vintage import and kit accessories and memorabilia. Building T will be overflowing with the major kit car manufacturers, many debuting new models or line additions.

All years, makes and models of imports and replicars are invited to enter the new Standard of Excellence judged competition. Enter one of three classes: Import – Restored; Import – Original/Unrestored; or Kit/Replicar/Specialty Cars. All cars will be judged on quality in engine and undercarriage; paint, chrome and exterior; and interior and trim. Judges are highly knowledgeable automotive professionals. Cars compete against a point system, not each other. Trophies will be awarded for the top points’ breakdowns. The competition is limited to 30 cars. Photos must be submitted with registration, which costs $50, due by May 13.

The Susquehanna Region of the Sports Car Club of America and its chapter club, the Appalachian Sports Car Club, will conduct a drivers’ school and an autocross/time trial for attendees during the weekend. The drivers’ school will be offered Saturday, with the autocross/time trial on Sunday on the Carlisle Fairground’s quarter-mile, six-turn road course, located on the back field adjacent to the turnpike.

The Carlisle Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals is more than cars. Clubs and groups may participate in the Club Cook-Off. Main courses and desserts can win cash prizes. The Cook-Off starts at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Activities Tent. Make sure to bring the recipe and enough food for three judges to taste. Clubs also take part in the Club Challenge. The clubs that bring the most members to the show earn cash prizes and a trophy. The Saabs of America club has won for the past three years, so be sure your club gives them a run for the money.

Anyone can take part in guided walking tours of historic Carlisle on Saturday. Sign up at the Cumberland County Visitors’ Booth on the fairgrounds. The three one-and-half-hour walking tours of downtown Carlisle’s Square will highlight Carlisle’s history.

Saturday evening, jump in your import or kit and cruise the Cumberland Valley. The Central Pennsylvania countryside is beautiful in the spring. Participants will cruise past farmlands, along creeks and to the edge of the forests. The cruise will end at a popular old-fashioned ice cream stand with a quiz about the sights seen along the way.

On Sunday morning, the Activities Tent will provide a convenient, non-denominational Worship service with complimentary coffee and doughnuts, followed by a new brainteaser. The trivia challenge starts at 11 a.m. The winner can choose from a selection of prizes, provided by our sponsors, and will be recognized at the stage between the Awards Parade and the giveaway. That’s right, on Sunday at about 1 p.m., a car will be given to one lucky winner. No purchase is necessary, but you must be present to win.

Gates open at 7 a.m. General admission is $6 Friday, $7 Saturday and $5 Sunday. Children under 12 years old are admitted free. Visit carsatcarlisle.com/import for more information, to sign up for Carlisle Events’ e-newsletter for all the latest updates, or to check out Carlisle Events’ Web forum. You may also call (717) 243-7855. Call 1(877) 727-8573 for hotel information. Carlisle Events welcomes presenting sponsor Beck/Arnley, producer of quality import replacement parts, and returning sponsors Meguiar’s and eBay Motors.

Carlisle Events, host of 11 collector car, truck and motorcycle events, attracts more than half a million people to its 82-acre fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pa., each year. Included in the annual schedule are two huge automotive swap meets – in the spring and fall – and individual specialty shows featuring Corvettes, Fords, GMs, Chryslers, trucks, motorcycles, sport compacts and imports. Founded in 1974 by friends Bill Miller and Chip Miller, the “Cars at Carlisle” shows attract automotive enthusiasts from around the world.
