Post North NJ: M-Club Autox at Giant Stadium on 5/8/05

Hello,

This is a call-out to all fellow RX-8ers to try your hands at autocross. Giant Stadium is conveniently located off Rt-3 in Secaucus, about 10 minutess away from Lincoln Tunnel.

bxb40 and I have been seeking more turnouts from RX-8 drivers around here for some time. We like to see you guys/gals come out for fun/support/run. We are by no means experienced autoxers, but we do enjoy the competition immensely. :D

Check out www.themclub.net for additional information and pre-registration sign-up. You can check out the two previous race results from the homepage. Keep in mind we are both running on all-season tires with some (bxb40) and no suspension mods (me).

Hope to see you there!

Sunday is Mother's day, many of us have to take care of the women that watch our children while we put on that third coat of Zaino the other Sunday's of the year.

Hmmmmmmm, guess it's just bxb40 and me again...
Sigh, how great it is to be single, free, and unattached on a Mother's Day Sunday with RX-8 (j/k)

In my case, I definitely know that there is still more potential left in the car than I am able to get out of as a driver at this moment. Autocrossing is really an equalized competition field, since you can very well see it from the second race result. I was able to beat 3 Honda S2000 (in my own and 1 class above), 1 Nissan 350Z, 1 Porsche 993, 1 E36 M3, and 1 Mustang Mach. While my overall class-standing place is disappointing, I continue to better my driving by benchmarking against other consistent and experienced autocrossers who trophy on regular basis.

Yes, Steve, it's up to us - again - to represent the auto (class E) and 6SP (class D) RX-8s
At least that dark green RX-7 kicks everybody's a$$ in class B
See you there on Sunday!

What a fun and exhausting day! Physically chasing after cones was certainly the highlight of the day as station workers for Alex and me. The competition was intense, with 0.4 sec separating 5th, 6th, and 7th out of 10 entrants in class D. Guess what place I was? =( At least I was very consistent throughout much of the day and kept on improving my time, effectively netting 4th place overall time. No longer over-driving the car & tires after adapting "slow-in & fast-out" approach and looking two gates ahead in corners.

As for Alex, thank pal for suffering through the inherently challenged auto RX-8 to be out there competing alongside. The co-drive is there for your taking if you like. Can't wait to see what the Tanabe front-sway bar currently on order will bring to the table.

Result is available here: http://www.themclub.net/2005/results/05082005.htm

Well, the AT is not suited for fast courses, that's for sure. Has to do with the safety of the tranny - can switch 1 to 2 at 45mph, but to go back 2 to 1 you cannot be at more than 30mph. In 2nd at 35-40mph there is not a lot of power or torque to accelerate........
But was fun to see those high HP fly..... and the STi saving proably on the rear tires by having one off the ground at any time.....

In-car video of the best run can be found here: video

Original file is 320x240 at 5.6Mbs. Both front windows were down, so excuse the excessive wind noise. First time doing camcorder mount and video editing/compression, hence, go easy on me about the video quality. Constructive criticism/feedback is welcome on the driving aspect.
