NJ-Philly-DE: Winter Tires ?

For all those that have winter tires/rims - when do you plan on switching to them? I was thinking the end of this month, because I can remember Thanksgivings with snow on the ground.

They are sitting in my garage waiting for the first forecast of freezing rain / snow. If that doesn’t happen soon I will wait till it hits freezing during daylight hours.

I was waiting for thanksgiving. Normally we get a dusting, but I cant remember anything serious that the summers could not handle.

I'll change over around thanksgiving. That is usually a safe time period.

i already have my 225 45 18 Blizzak Lm22s on put em on first of november...frankly they seem to offer similar performance to stock on everything except dry braking.

I'm putting on my winter tires tomorrow actually, you want to put them on when it starts getting cold regularly, 'cause the low temperatures cause the stock tires to lose traction very quickly. That's why they're "winter" tires, and not just "snow tires" - you will see an improvement in traction in the cold even if it hasn't snowed.

I guess my biggest concern is putting them on too early and then running the car in 50+ degree weather. I did that last year with my Integra. It didn't ruin the tires or anything, but I wonder how much life I shaved off of the tires. I guess I'll never know 'cause I trade it for the 8.

At least I got a wheel/tire package so I can change them if I wake up and there's snow or ice or something. I'm probably going to wait until next week.

Does anyone have pics of their 8 with 17 inch wheels and snow tires on it? I was going to get Mille Miglia Action wheels and Blizzak tires and was concerned how the smaller wheel and higher profile tires would look on the 8.

Dave, please refer to the following the thread I started during the summer. I think you will find it very useful. Gord had mentioned that he was going to make it a sticky to help out people in your situation, but I think he decided against it for some reason.

Hey Bay - how is middlesex county treating ya'. It has been a while since I have been up there, will be driving through on Christmas.

Maybe I'll get to see those wheels at an upcoming RX-8 Tri-State Club meet.

I tried my winter tires last night, I can tell how heavy they are immediately! Drove to Atlantic City in the rain, and had awesome traction. While everyone was going 50, I had a cool 75. It will be fun this year in the snow!

Wayne

BTW - I have a 235/45/18 Dunlop M3 setup with stock rims
