When the fd went on sale it was advertised as having 276hp. That is flywheel HP. Putting drivetrain loss at 15%, that would be roughly 250whp. The RX8 is sold as a 232hp car, with roughly, 200 whp. I have seen RX8s decimate cars with 100hp on them, i'm sure the FD (IN STOCK FORM AS IT SHOULD BE) will not be able to keep up (we're talking about handling here lol). You can say that the suspension was a work in progress, but the RX8 is a completely different chassis with the same drivetrain, which is what the essence of the quote was re. rotary vehicles.

And about reliability, the only thorn in the side of the RX8 is that Mazda rolled with inadequate oil metering for the better part of 4 years before they finally got the flashes right. As such people that didn't proactively look after their cars ran into motor issues. The damage was done for them. Not everyone has problems the sample of owners you get from an online forum is negligible to the real world.. and also the fact that the reason you read so much about failures is that people will come online and post in frustration/anger/whatever..

I helped some guy few days ago on the BQE here in NY in a gray RX8 who had bought the car back in 03, had never heard of these forums, had 133,000 miles on his car and he told me he went 5,000 in between oil changes, changed his spark plugs once, coils are original, and he still says the car feels the same. Apart from tires and brakes he had not spent another penny on the car.

Could you say the same about the RX7 after 80,000 miles? I think it's nearly impossible to find an rx7 with the same amount of miles for sale that hasn't already had the engine rebuilt, or the turbo blown, or what not.

I agree that it isnt necessarily fair to compare an older car to a newer car, but the quote in discussion is simply trying to put forward the fact that their are certain rx7 owners (not any of you guys, but I have def met them at bigger meets =/) that think they have this superior car. It's almost like they feel offended Mazda even decided to manufactur the RX8 for some reason. They are both awesome cars, lets respect each other!!!!

The OP is #285 on this page https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-media-news-11/16x-delay-184992/page12/

I just like it for what it is and could care less what car is faster or better. Many others don't feel that way though. They need to be thought of as being better than everyone else.
Maybe you guys know him?

sorry for the long post ;p im sitting in my schools library waiting for class with nothing else to do!!

the fd was always advertised as having 255 if i wasnt on my phone i would post the links to original brochures

you guys also have our suspension setups btw.

and omar im not bashing im telling the truth, the other flaw in the design is the exhaust ports, it was designed for better gas mileage however the downside to side port exhaust is your always going to have lots of lapsing which heats the incoming air and im almost positive raises egts

oh and as for your comment on miles al, my fc had 200,000 miles before it went, never changed coils, theres been plenty of fcs fbs and the rare fd to do it, the 8 isnt the only car capable of making it that far, just ask dave

False dumbest thing ive ever heard. my MPV has 5 doors, its a sports car, and will **** up any of your cars in a straight line, reverse line, twistiest, burn outs etc.

the rx8 is not faster then all rx7s, i guess the OP forgot about the TII which in its final years was pushing around 220
im pretty sure theyre all slow stock comparing which slow car is faster then which slow car is lame

when you have a similar failure rate as an FD, with far less power...n/a, theres a problem
they dont have nearly the same failure rate... idk i was the dumbest 8 owner ever, missed oil changes, used mobile 1 synthetic!?!? etc. if my engine was built correctly from factory, im pretty sure my car would have went longer.. how much longer? idk...

especially when you really think about it...the best rotary car ever was probably like the rx3 or something, its sold the most out of all of us and thats really what matters for how great a car was
just because it sells more doesnt make it superior or better. lets take a real world situation for example... lets say..... perhaps the iphone?

I prob wont be able to save you from the flame storm about to come lol. But my 2cents----- on anytrack stock for stock the Rx8 can wip the FD3S... and doesn't the FD3S have tons of threads on reliabilty mods that need to be done? Compared to the Rx8 which doesn't need any.
i guess ill give you that one... lol

And most blown motors were due to ignorant people who bought the car and didn't know how to maintain the car. remember the Rx8 was marketed to a broader consumer base. =]
thats biased... majority of both car failures are due to dumbass owners.. all the fan boys buy BOTH cars thinking its a super honda and can throw whatever they want on it and make it fast.... and thats what makes rotaries special, you gotta respect them...

al you write too much so im not gonna bother nit picking you

since ive owned both cars they are both shitty cars. they are what they are and they are bought because dumbass people like them for some strange reason. so stop comparing which is better, they both suck.

The rotary motor itself is considered to be a flop by many lol.... Also I think this would be a better quote "Many RX-7 owners don't like the RX-8". Not all by any means but i think a majority.

All cars suck im getting a helicopter. Ill be landing in the starbucks parking lot tonight to celebrate.

I don think that the car is suck, but it's just the owner. Expect more than what the car can provide..LOL...we all expect small car to be fast, and nothing satisfies human..we always want more than standard. In other words, all cars are good to it's standard...
Who is coming tonight?

The biggest problem of them all as I always say is rx7's and rx8s having two different forums. It puts a lot of people in the mindset that there two different cars.
I never understood how the fd rx7 owners can appreciate rx2's, rx3's & and all gens of rx7s (which are all slower than the FD) but not give credit to the rx8? Which can out handle all of them including most FD's.

exactly!!!all the 90's sport cars Died and bringing them back was a roll of the Dice.
Most people didnt want to pay for a car that was sporty but not practical.

Remember the rx7, 300z, and supra all came in 2+2 models. Which was basically there sneaky way of having a 4 seater but still being able to call it a 2 seater. The term "sports car" is arbitrary, We give it meaning. To say that because the rx8 has 4doors and 4 seats eliminates its from being a sports car is unfair.

each generation was an amazing handling car for its time, and things keep getting better throughout the years, im positive the next generation is going to handle even better, its progress
Agreed,
The rx8 is missing the power. But the handling is incredible. Sure the rx7 was powerful but its only powerfully compared to the rx8, compared to its competition it was the handling and 50/50 weight that set it apart. And I feel like they captured that with the rx8

when you have a similar failure rate as an FD, with far less power...n/a, theres a problem
Dude C'mon thats exaggerated.... Failures for rx8 are like "my HID's aren't aligned" Rx7 failures are like "my motor blew and a apex seal went through my turbo".. lol

the rx8 is not faster then all rx7s, i guess the OP forgot about the TII which in its final years was pushing around 220
When people think of faster its in terms of straight liine... The rx7 wasn't a straight line car It was a handling one. A rx7 does Laguna Seca in 1:47 (slightly Moded) a rx8 does it in 1:50 (stock).

Alot of times when people compare cars we compare the Aftermarket counter parts and not the actual car it self. The reason the Rx7 Is Oh-So-Holy is because of the aftermarket support. With out that the FD is nothing.... And I think thats what happened to the Rx8

lol.. when I'm actually in the market again to buy a car (read: when I'm older and wiser, and more importantly richer), I'm hoping to get an AWD monster. My girlfriend would murder me if I got an Exige haha.

Yeah, Wayne Mazda was pretty damn awful when I was having all my problems with the 8. They tried to void my warranty because I had a speaker system installed... which is ridiculous. Can't wait to hear your story, Omar.

IDK after I wrecked the 8 I just didn't really get back into the car scene. I think I've picked up a new one though... it'll be final next week.

I'm not gonna make it tonight because I have a couple of appointments for things, but maybe next week or something. Still at the RTE3 Starbucks, I'm guessing?

and yeah, just PM me the story. I freakin' hate them.

I decided not to because of parts and reputable dealer who wouldnt after they sold you the car basically say and yer off. How many years are we talking until this lotus purchase we can get a deal walk in say we want 3.......Ill be the yellow one. For some reason i feel like we may be able to transform into voltron if we all get different colors.
