if you do, remember that those are NOT to be driven in temps. lower than 50 degrees, well that's what i read.

about the rough idling, definitely take to the dealer. shuldn't be a problem about it.
I have read that, too, but isn't that referring to the drastically reduced traction? I've definitely felt that before, let me tell you. Driving this car in the snow or even freezing rain is not fun, either. (Luckily I never went more than a mile or two).
But that wouldn't be what causes the bumpy ride when cold would it? OTOH I don't have a clue, so it may be.

Mine's a sport, but I did see you there. A couple of co-workers and I went to Fudds on Friday.

I've driven around on summer tires all winter without any of the thumping sounds you described.

The tires do have ****-poor traction when it's cold though.

My 'Blowtenza's' did this from the day I bought the car. I won't go into the LONG story about why I couldn't get this issue resolved, but it's moot because I ended up buying the Pirelli P-Zero Neross anyway.

My OEM Bridgestones were out of round, that's why they thumped like crazy. New tires, no more problems. But the issue your describing sounds like a flat spot thats developing on the tire when the car sits. Some tires get flat spots when it's cold and this goes away after you drive a few miles. If that's the issue you're having, there's nothing I know of that can be done. Which tires are they?

Oh yeah, I have the "blowtenzas" alright. I've read all over the net about how lame these tires are supposed to be. Seems the traction is pretty good compared to my old Michelin summer tires that were on my previous car... but that may also have more to do with the differences in cars too. I think I'll let the tread life wear out on em and get something better when they do, though I have long to go (4 month old tires).

Yeah I have the OEM Bridgestones and they thump like crazy. I will be buying new tires within the next couple of months. So I am just running off as much rubber as I can on these.

I couldn't take the thumping, it was driving me nuts.

The tires are covered under Bridgestones warranty and they are more than eager to help. If you call the Bridgestone helpline they'll patch you through to the manager of the closest shop. That's what I did. I took my car into them and they balanced them (among other things supposedly)- it helped quite a bit. The two of you may want to do this if the thumping is bothering you.

Hey Zephyr, thanks for the advice. I think I'll give that a shot after all, if the dealer guys go lame on this (which they probably will since they put the tires on themselves).

You're welcome, but I wouldn't even go through the dealer. The Mazda warranty explicitly states (albeit in fine print on page 1,672) that they do NOT cover the OEM tires. Remember that debacle with Ford and Firestone? I guess that's why. They don't want to be liable for any accidents due to the tires.

Also, my dealer tried to balance them anyway for me and that didn't work. The Firestone/Bridgestone guys work with these tires for a living so they are very good at fixing any problems.

I just saw a Sunlight Silver RX8 crashed against a barrier wall on 695 between Towson and I-70. The crash looked significant. I was caught in the traffic jam it caused. It looks like the accident took place around 7:30pm. I hope all individuals who were involved in the crash are OK and my feelings go out to them.

Hi guys (and gals). Been a while.

Thinking of trading in the 05 8 on a new 40th anniversary model. 6spMT as few options as possible. Current one is a 6spMT Sport, aftermarket sat, bluetooth, ipod, tint, factory spoiler, racing beat screens. Am I nuts? Anything special or worthwhile in the anniversary model?

Do NOT do that. There is virtually no difference in the 08 model. If you're looking for any difference at all, wait a few months (July?) and get the 09 which is facelifted, has auto climate control and a few other tweaks. You'll be very sad if you get the 08 and give up your 05. The 09 is a complete refresh and all you have to do is wait a few months.

Thanks. Been away for a while. Didn't realize the 09 was getting a refresh.

The 09 refresh is just a mid-cycle refresh at that. Expect an "all new" car by 011 or 012 model year. Usually those facelifts are there to boost sales for 12-18 months before arrival of a new model.

The anniversary model is like a Shinka but bluish, greenish grey with orangish seets and cool wheels.

The 09 has different headlights and taillights, bumpers, etc, some nice interior bits, and a high end model with sick 19"s a 4.77 rear end to match and recarro's.

Agreed. I don't like it at all. I do like the auto climate control though.

Yeah, the interior is def. better than the older models. But, I would rather go for exterior than interior. You can always make the interior looks nice.
