Just got my second ticket in a month for doing 78 in a 55! Both times I was sure I wasn't going that fast (maybe 72). What's with MD cops these days?!? Is the RX8 a cop-magnet? Methinks I'm overdue for a radar detector.

Seriously, though, I've owned the car for just about a year and I've never been pulled over as frequently; four times in a year, all for minor speed infractions, two warnings, two tickets. This car's going to be the death of my wallet (and sanity) if this keeps up.

 

I'm not a snarky person, nor trying to be, but wouldn't it be easier and less $$ just to slow down? Haven't been pulled over yet (knocks on wood), but then again I travel up and down all these roads I know where all the traps are ; ) It's not the car. I used to drive a saab and for some reason I was always a target. My husband told me that MD uses lasers, not radars, so a dectector might not work. Also, they can scan you way in advance. Don't know how true that is, but worth a thought.

Maryland uses lasers and radar. Lasers are expensive and hard to use so they still mostly use radar. I've seen Staties and Harford cops use both. Laser doesn't have any range advantage over radar.

Detectors work for both. The Valentine One does.
It's no excuse to drive like an A-hole, but it can save you from chickenshit speedtrap tickets and remind you to slow down in highway construction zones (lasers there). My V1 has paid for itself about three times over, considering defending against a ticket is usually $300-400 on top of the $100-200 fine or "court fees".
Not defending (or losing) can easily cost $1000-2000 in extra insurance premiums or even cost you a job if they do a background check.

Hello all you wonderful MD RX-8 owners. And al this time i thought i was alone. Who knew we had our own thread?

So here is the skinny. I recently had a new transmission put into my 2004 GT 6spMT RX-8. The super fun part is that i had an 09 transmission put into it, alla olddragger. I gotta say i like it better! but now to the point.

I have FOR FREE, local pickup only, an Axial Flow Engineering Short Throw Shifter for the 04-08 6sp mt. Also i have a stock Shift **** i would be willing to give up as well.

Mostly i just want these to go to a good home, and i'd love to stand around and shoot the sh*t with a fellow rotor head.

As a side note, I will be trying to organize a local meet in the Rockville area. I got a buddy who is opening a pizza place and its got a nice roomy parking lot, also they got pirroni on tap, yummy.

I want to try and keep the meet as PC as possible so no burnouts and dumb kid stuff, that said tell your friends, if they are car enthusiast also, the idea is to have more rotory cars there than anything else, lets see those piston guys make fun of us when we are in force That being said all are welcome. This won't materialize for about a month or so. I'm still waiting for his shop to open up.

Just bought a 2004 RX-8 GT, I'm new to the Renisis, and new to Mazda's in general. Just switched from DSM's. I'm usually around the Bel Air area...car meets at Absolute Audio is where I chill, only problem is that the group I hang out with are WRX/STI and 350/370z, and a few Honda's of course...where do all the Mazda's meet up at?

was riding a few lengths down from a gray 8 cardonfiber hood yesterday around 500pm on 695 anyone on here

 

I'm in Columbia and I have the phantom blue (I think it's more or less green) RX8. ANy special maintanace you guys recommend for after you pass 100,000 mi.

Yeah I've seen you twice and with the AWESOME traffic on base was not able to catch you before exiting base. I work at the Berger lab E3549 Im sure Ill see ya around and if you wanna do lunch or catch up sometime let me know, there are several good car people I work with(modded G35, charcoal grey Exige, etc) who are always up for car talk or hanging out.

Hey guys. There is an all car meet on saturday. I don't think I will be there, but check out this facebook page for future meets I will most likely be attending. I have had my car for a year and I still have not met up with anyone at all. I think I raced someone around 695 near towson a few months ago, but that's about it.
