There's already a flash flood watch for tomorrow around the time we'd be meeting, running through Wed afternoon. I won't be able to check the net before the time set for tomorrow, but I'm going to guess we won't be meeting with floods threatening the area. I'll check the site tomorrow evening to see what everyone comes up with for Wednesday.

I wouldn't be all that worried, my phone gets flash flood warning notifications about once a week, but if everyone consents to doing Wednesday evening then speak up...

New Guy just hitting the boards. First my thanks to Rotr8 for directing me to the right thread.
Just bought (3weeks ago) 2007 GT RX8 w/18,500 for 15K, which according to anything I could find on autotrader looked like a good deal to me! Its stormy mica blue, just wondering why I don't see many or many listed as the color on posts, was it not popular, I love the color?
I did have a low mileage experience with one tank of gas from Sonoco, and will be trying Shell V Power, which for some reason always gave me better mileage in my Charger. Hoping between that and curbing some of my kid with a new toy impulses, I'll do better. Also, the dealer had overfilled the oil, not sure if that could have contributed.
Anyway, anyone know of good places for service/repairs in or around Montgomery County, please let me know. Hoping I can make a meet and if any local Montgomery County owners are interested, maybe we can have a mini-meet with any who want to attend. Must say the all the info i've seen on the threads has been great and looks like I've lucked into a great group of people. Looking forward to hooking up with you guys via the posts or for a meet.
AS for me, if you are local to Rockville/Germantown, wanted to recommend, Luv my Car Car wash on 118. For 50 bucks a month you get 4 washes and a wax every three months. About the equivalent of washing twice a month (using their best wash, includes tire shine, foam polish, undercoating) Or you can choose from various washes from about 11 bucks to 20 bucks, they do an excellent job.

Hey there justgr8t. I'm a new guy too. I saw your other post about buying the car at the Bob Bell dealership. I also looked at the car and had them down to 14k but I just couldn't pull the trigger because they didn't have service records for it. I even went so far as to have the dealership call the previous owner and ask if it would be okay for me to speak to him. He seemed like a good enough guy and said that he had just thrown out all his service records the previous week. The car was in great shape though. Happy to hear that you like it. I hope the gas mileage gets better for you. Did you get the visor fixed? It shoud be covered under warranty.
Although I didn't buy the one you bought, yesterday I did buy a Red 2009 RX8 R3. It is awesome! I bought it in North Carolina and drove it back to Reston. It is by far the best driving feel I have ever experienced. The only down side was the Recaro seat was getting a little uncomfortable by the end of the 4 hour trip. I averaged 20.5 mpg doing 80 on the highway and 22.4 doing 70. Driving around today showing friends the car I can already tell that my city mileage is going to be significantly lower. It's worth it though...I love the car!
I am definitely in for a meet. I live in Reston, VA now but grew up in Silver Spring. Meeting anywhere in Montgomery or Fairfax county is cool with me. I would love to talk to some RX8 owners who have had their cars for a while and find out about the best place to get my new baby service. Also want to find out about any fun roads in the area.

Shouldda had you negotiate my price, I'd be a thousand bucks richer, lol!!! but still think it was a relatively good deal, they gave me 2k more than any other dealer would for my trade in. I just plain fell in love with the car and really wanted that color. I would definetly recommend them to deal with. The dealer actualy mentioned a guy from VA to me as in you better grab it before he does. Said you wore a helmet to test drive and that you were planning on racing it?
I'm glad to meet you. I'll be putting together a mailing list of peeps in our area that might be interested. Might host a doo at my house or somewhere close by. 20 MPG is awsum, hope some of it rubs off on my car!! I'll add you to list and pm the folks that seem to have an interest.
Haven't taken the visor in yet, plan to this week, along with an oil change and potentially sparks and wires if my mileage doesn't improve with the next tank of gas. I think it might have been the brand, i was forced to fill up at a Sunoco and found historically that it didn't give me as good a mileage in my old quarter miler (a charger). I agree that lower gas mileage is a cost of fun and should be counting smiles per gallon but 12.4? Not if there is something I can do about it.

Welcome
Welcome to the thread, justgr8t and BurgundyGold
Compared to most of the owners on here, I'm relatively new to the RX-8 world. I picked up a 2010 Aurora Blue Mica R3 in June/July and absolutely love it!
Of course, I purchased it new, so I couldn't tell you much about maintenance around the area. There are some great people on here who are more than willing to help, though. Between advice in here and the maintenance threads, you should be able to find good service or take care of your RX-8 yourself.
Mileage is always going to be poor with the 8, but I knew that for months before I got it. The kid with a new toy effect didn't help with economy, but with 20-22 highway on premium, the car is anything but. From what I've seen, city driving gets me to ~18 (most of my driving is highway). My first tank was worse, but I chalked that up to getting used to the car and playing with the 9k redline a number of times.
I love the car, but the R3 comes with the summer tires and I have not picked up anything for the winter. I have a Forrester to get me through the snow out here, so my 8 is covered for the winter. As such, I won't be up for a meet until spring, but from March-November is good by me.
Enjoy your new toys!

Who's got the red RX-8 with the injen sticker on their rear window in Bel Air? Passed by him in my dad's jeep, it sounded really nice.
There's also one particular winning blue driver that I have exchanged waves with about three times now. He's the only guy that waves at me first...
I'm always roaming around Bel Air. my commute takes me through downtown bel air every evening, unfortunately I don't see too many 8s around there during that time
