Put it this way: If the depth of knowledge at the dealers is a backyard kiddie pool, the depth of knowledge at the shops I mentioned is the Marianas Trench.

Spec RX-7? I'm expanding my worldview, I met RX8Convert22 at Summit Point with his fairly sharp Spec-7, we ran in the same DE class and tried as much as possible not to die in the heat. I find it an odd commentary on our sport that he owns two items valued more than gold to a first-gen -7 owner, and you'll have to ask him what they are.
New 12A rotor housings. I told him to buy them when he found them. Worth twice their weight in gold. He also has a new steering gear which is highly-coveted among the SA/FB faithful. But those can still be had from MAZDASPEED for reasonable rates. Rotor housings? Not a chance.

You get used to the heat. My Spec RX-7 has no insulation so all the engine heat comes right through the floor. "Correct" solution is a cool suit. My solution is a NACA duct in the window, some dryer vent piping, and two bottles of water over my head after suiting up.

BTW, I'm taking your advice and adding a spare set of coils to the RX-8 track kit. Just over two weeks before TrackDaze at the Shen...

I'll be picking up two more coils myself. I know there's one original left under there, and 'darnellm' tells me he went through 3 complete sets of OEM coils on track and the road in 20k miles. He's now a happy camper with 11k on his BHR coil kit.

I'm still on for TrackDaze and the Shen, but I'm no longer sure it is a good venue for me at this time. Almost to the man, you ask an instructor at Summit Point if a HPDE-1 student should drive the Shenandoah, the answer was "Nope, not a good idea".

Then again, I built and flew one of these "back in the day":

Striker and Wankel, I will not be joining you at the Shen this time round, My car isnt track worthy and I decided to cancel and take my time with making sure everything is up to snuff and safe before I go throwing it around full throttle...
Better safe than sorry, but I will definately be ready for NJMP in June....

FYI, you might be seeing me around tonight through Tuesday. Down to visit Aaron and check out his wife's new ride, among other things, working down there Monday and Tuesday morning before driving back.

Good meeting you Striker-7 at the track. Sorry to hear all the pain you went through with the coils. If I start tracking mine I'll have to pack an extra set. I'm used to taking extra parts with me to the track If you guys give Trackdaze a good review I'll be going to their Summit main event in July.

Next Saturday I'll be at the Spring event BSR is holding. It is only $95 for track time! I am not sure if they have available spots, but if anyone is looking for cheap track time I highly recommend giving them a call to find out.

Ah yes, Spring Festival 2009 and FATT. Good times for the non-driving companion, and change back from a 'Benjamin' for track time!

Well, as it stands the clocks ticking and im comming closer to moving day. Man, I hate moving. I sure could use the help of any locals when I get up there, cant pinpoint an exact date that im going to be there, ill keep Greg notified of the progress. Keep in mind I do work buy the barter system so all help will be paid back in full +1. The plan is to move things into the a storage unit ASAP. Im working out a place to settup shop but things are gona be tight for a little while till I can get on my feet. I really hope that dosnt take long. Ill service, fix and create anything that someone needs done. I do everything buy the job and not the time it took me to get it done. I also work on street bikes, ATVs jetskies and just about anything high performance. It would be nice to have a few jobs lined up, time will tell.

I'm down to help too. I just moved back last year so I shouldn't be too rusty at unloading a truck.

When moving, bigger is always better.

Nothing is more of a hassle to find there's not enough room in the truck, now you need two trips or a trailer. I'm a veteran (in more ways than one) of 7 USAF self-moves, and a huge "Hells, Yeah!" for Penske Truck Rental, big-assed trucks for your big-assed moves.

U-Haul can bite my (censored), those gutless little ***** truck-wannabes.

Hi all. I bought a black 07' RX-8 last October but have been pretty busy. I live in Ellicott City, and work in Woodlawn. I know I have seen some other owners around and have been beeped at a few times. Just saying hi.

So I was trying to call around and find a place that could coat my turbo manifold and piping, but the lady at the powdercoating place said I needed ceramic coating because manifolds and piping got too hot to powdercoat. She didn't have any recommendations on a place that could do ceramic coating. Anybody A) know if she is correct B) know if there is a good ceramic coating place I could get my GReddy manifold and piping coated at?

Can anyone recommend a mechanic/shop for some minor maintenance issues on my RX-8? I've got a 2005 and live in Silver Spring/Burtonsville MD. Though I love to drive, I am not mechanically inclined, so finding out how to replace a pollen filter (quote of $205.31 at the dealer) or cleaning carbon off the throttle body (149.50) is not likely to happen in my carport. I've had ok luck with a different car at Far East Motors, but haven't taken the 8 there yet since it's still under warranty. While I like Rosenthal in Arlington well enough, and Congressional so far has been fine for routine service, I'm trying to get the optional maintenance for a little less than dealer rates. Thanks in advance for any help.

BTW, sorry if this has been covered, but after searching good repair, good shop, and good mechanic, I got limited hits.
