I've heard that the warranty from D&L (that they'll replace it if you get a ticket) is a rip off because they charge you still have to pay to have the old tint remove (100$). That's just what I've heard.

The legal limit in Md is 35%. Kind of ironic this conversation would come up because I dropped by car off last night to get tinted and I'm about to go pick it up right now.

I went to Dr. Detail in Bel Air. They did my old car and did a FANTASTIC job. I never had a single issue with it. I think they charge somewhere in the neighborhood of 170$, but I can't remember. Guess I'll find it out in a few minutes.

The guy told me if I put 35% (legal limit) on top of the factory tint, it would be about 28% which is illegal. They next option was 50%... but I thought that was stupid and pointless and so I did 35% anyway

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

As for the "go", I didn't know of this one until Wednesday this week. Thought the first one was months off, at VIR, during the runup to the Grand-Am races. The -8 needs some brake work, and I have nowhere decent to work on it at the moment.
So Tim what are your plans on this I can call Dan up he'll probably do it,
let me know what your signin up for and stuff and I'll let ya know,,,
Its not soundin good, tomorrow I gotta take my pulley off to see if its the bearing or if there is a sticky point when I turn the pulley lets hope its just the bearing,,, A sticky spot means there is something in there with the screws and that means replacing/remanning the blower, and that wouldnt be a big deal if it wasnt my DD....

Bad. ***.

My tint job is fantastic And, I asked the guy while I was there if he had any experience with tinting tail lights... he said no but he'd be willing to give it a go. I figure he might be better off at it than me, so I might let him try to do it. Said he won't charge me much.

Pardon my snow tires/wheels. They're kind of icky.

Good luck with that. What bearing are you talking about, front side drive pulley of the 'charger or elsewhere?

As for VIR, I bit the bullet and signed up. Now to get at it for the stuff usually needed at these things, like wheel chocks, the helmet, etc. Windproof balaclava might be an option, I just can't carry off a scarf with a full-face helmet.

Heck of a racket to be sure. I'm curious if there is enough bypass air available to drop the drive belt off the charger and see if the howling continues. A few seconds at idle is more than enough. This would rule out idlers and the alternator as sources of the racket.

With the belt off, you can try rotating as you mentioned and see if there are any tight spots / grinding or stiction. I'd also look for longitudinal (in-out) motion on the drive shaft; with the design of the screws, it looks like any movement in that direction would cause knocking noises like you're hearing. Last thing would be rapid left-right turns on the pulley, listen for looseness in the drivetrain and any kickback you feel in the pulley when you reverse direction.

Wheel chocks are recommended for these events, because after 20 minutes of high-speed running, the brake components are going to be very hot. The engine is going to have to shed heat as well, so the usual procedure is to open the hood and let the engine idle until the cooling fan disengages. While you're waiting for that, you do NOT want the emergency brake set, as it will trap heat in the calipers / rotors in one spot and promote rotor warping or cracking. So, you block the wheels with the chocks and leave the e-brake off. If you really want to be careful, roll the car about 1/2 rotation of the tires after about 5 minutes to get that hotspot out from under the pads.

Yeah, I've been reading up on this.

That's sexy have to say. I wonder what that kind of tint would look like on a SS.
The summer with black leather seats is a legitimate reason enough to get it....

I have 15% for $150. The tint shop that I did it was in Snowden River Parkway. More specifically, on Dobbin Road.

I had my 21st birthday party at Freddie's!

I wonder if being a girl and crying while being pulled over for tint will work as well as it does for speeding

Heritage Mazda of Bel Air is the best, they've been taking care of me for years, doing aftermarket work and still honoring my warrantee... Heath is the only tech I'll let touch my car...

No sir. But I do drive past there quite often. Maybe sometime you will see me! And hey, pretty soon I'll have blacked-out tail lights so you'll definitely know it was me. The tint came in the mail yesterday but I'm too afraid to do it because I don't have enough time.

And I also go to that Heritage Mazda too Rotr8, I think they have excellent service. I've heard some bad things about that place, but I never have a problem.
