o wow....ok so there'll be a turnout i see...
i have a test friday....you guys are killin me lol

i might come for a little while, just so we can pour one out for gh0st... (and drink one while we're at it!)

PS- my power steering is failing, i can get around but it's scary, same thing as described in this thread:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/power-steering-failure-107481/

I have the contact cleaner and dielectric grease, and if i do come out tomorrow i'll bring them and take the airbox out and try to fix the problematic connectors. Anyone with a 2004-2005 should probably do the same....

EdwardLenczowski - isn't that a great feeling? I get that look everyday at the train when I leave my car there. When I go home and walk to my car who ever is near me sees me getting in and usually they have their mouth floored, lol. One guy even was pissed cause he was getting into a beat up 70's (maybe 80's) totoya corolla and he was dressed ina nice suit, lol.

lol Jim you are infatuated with her handle....

anyway- thanks for the help. I got your txt, I'm going to try to rewire it tonight with the RIGHT sized bud connectors, and clean the connector on the bottom. If that doesn't fix it, then i'm really fuxored because that fixed it in 95% of everyone else who had this problem. But I will hit you up for some soldering help if that happens....

lol yeah well i figure i always have people to help :-)

Anyway, so this is REALLY strange: i took it to my dad's house and we cleaned all the connectors (all 3 ends) and soldered the slightly bootleg crimped wires. I also went through the entire workshop manual and did the troubleshooting fore the whole system, checked the voltages on the torque sensor, EPS module, etc. Those were normal. Put good dielectric grease on all the connectors, and put it all back together...annnnnnnnd- nothing. Didn't help at all. I was piiiiised.

Then driving around town a half hour later, it started working again. BIZZARE. Very happy, but confused. And I have my doubts how long it will last.

Bottom line is that harness and system is VERY sensitive, and the harness is really the main source of problems. If it didn't come back, I would have ordered a new harness from mazmart and tried that. Dealers especially like to throw parts at the problem (EPS module = $1000, steering rack = $1500) but it seems like with this car, it really is most likely a harness issue.
