yup, thats why the brakes on almost all cars are biased towards the front. at least your 8 is fine. congrats on the new ride

 

I can't believe I didn't get in an accident on my first night with the new ride, weather being considered and all... But she's safely in the garage now and tomorrow is supposed to be nice enough to take 'er out. Need to spend time with the new ride to get fully acquainted, you know!

 

Got 1.5 feet here in Levittown. My 8 is safely tucked away! Thank goodness cause the roads were terrible this morning! My Neon needs brakes, so my husband took that to work this morning, and I got to take his friend's behemoth Expedition. I could get hooked on the remote start. Too bad all my cars are stick..... Drive safe everyone!

the 8 is safe for remote start as long as the installing shop has the info needed. i have it in mine

The 8 does just fine in snow if you have snow tires and take your time...

 

^^As long as the roads have been plowed at least once when there's a foot of snow. Otherwise, your car becomes the plow.

 

My wife had no problem getting out of our driveway, which was covered with over a foot of snow. That was in her Honda Element, though.

 

Drove to work today .. Luckily the wind blew off all snow off my car in the parking lot .. just had to shovel from behind the car to get rid of the snow deposited by snow ploughs.

Got stuck going up a slight hill at a stop sign. Somehow did some fishtailing and then the tires gripped - phew :-)

ohh man yesterday i went out driving on the halfpaved roads.. what a blast!! i love the blizzaks i have on my winter wheels, they work great! imho, i had better traction than many SUVs on the road -- based on me going the same speeds yet sliding less. tried to get onto a highway with an onramp covered in about 4 inches of snow, it was wild. i drove around for 2 hours just for fun. i <3 the snow. god bless the 8 with blizzaks hahah

 

ohh yeah almost forgot to say how funny it was to see everyone looking at me. all with shocked faces wondering how i was driving with the car on those roads... and how awesome the traction control is

 

i can't believe that some of you guys are driving out there in summer tires (stock or otherwise).

drdiaboloco--you made a good choice of parking the car there...

not lecturing here. all i'm saying is that the safety margin on the summers in snow or ice is so very slim. i would not want to take such a huge risk of hitting car/curb/person with my beautiful 8.

i do love all the snow pics though!

 

driving through rockaway blvd, everyone who was shoveling/digging were wondering how I'm able to drive a sports car around as well.

 

i'll have to try the blizzaks for my next set .. the Dunlop winter sport m3s feel a bit squirelly in deep snow

I have the same sentiments last night when I drove it out to grab some dinner. But I do like how the m3s feel on dry roads

 

yeah they are a good compromise - just need to take it easy i guess.

interesting, i'd be nice to compare snow traction betwen two different snows. it is an RWD car--supposed to be a little squirrely? anyone in the Mass area with any other snow tires? and a snowy parking lot?

 

Hey all, don't want to sound like a dumbass, but I am new to the site, just got my rx8 about a month ago, but i have noticed that IT SUCKS IN THE SNOW, forcing me to drive my eclipse. I was wondering, and reading this posts it is, if this is common problem. After reading that is from you guys, I was wondering who has purchased snow tires, what you bought, and how well they have performed. Love the car but it is just terrible in the snow. Thanks and let me know.

 

you are correct...I tried (and failed) to drive the rx-8 in the snow. I drive my old POS if I HAVE to drive in the snow. If you're lookin for cheap snow tires, your best bet is the parts for sale section of this site, a set will pop up every few weeks or so. If not, go for www.tirerack.com

 

the car is OK in the snow, summer tires aren't stewy, check out the snow tires section in the tires page.

i like my dunlop m3s. the car stops better in snow that my old mazda protege in pirelli snowsports. i would recommend dunlop m3s, but myself, i would try michelin pilot alpin pa2 next (just for different tire's sake).
